Re: mimic wizard?
Aug 10 2006  on content New "KDE" Layout

Agreed, although there are many things I personally prefer to be like Windows (small taskbar, double clicking folders etc) these are small changes to the UI and OK. But if we do see a big change in KDE it better be the standard- think about the scenario on Linux Questions if you have a group of people who run the OS like OSX, an entire group like Windows and a group with something different again.

It's a nice idea to be as hospitable as possible and I would like to see it but the practical aspects of this make it unneeded, it would over complicate rather than simplify a lot of the transition.

e.g. I am looking for an answer on LQ and I find this:

"Go the the Start Menu area, under control panel go to networking section....."

My first thought as a user of one of the other two solutions would be "the where, the what?"

Changes to the DE should probably be limited to minor changes.

Aug 10 2006  on content Tearable Desktops

So say a user has a couple of multimedia apps they want on top at all times but occasionally wants to get them out of the way completely, yet needs to come back to them later- you can't see how having a group of applications separate could potentially help?

Not a bad idea
Jul 28 2006  on content Tab (window) browsing

At first I thought the idea sounded cr@p to be honest with you, however with some extra thought it looks quite good.

You get my vote BUT I would rewrite the description if I were you.

Good idea IMHO
Jun 24 2006  on content K installer creator

Yes installing in Linux is pretty easy, and I know people claim that in windows you have to find all the drivers etc to get it to work.

Linux however unless you're very technically talented requires you to wait for somebody to make your distro's RPM. Not as good IMO, the rpm creator must get everything together and if he's too bust it's far easier on windows to do an install because every .exe works and if you don' have the driver, you can download the .exe and it works!

I complain about Apple breaking compatability between processors, Linux is worse frankly for any new user- we need some sort of universal installer whether than is universal RPMs or universal installation files like this.

Design
Jun 23 2006  on content kde4 use opera widgets?

Personally I would like better quality, more uniformly designed widgets than you get with Opera, but it's open source so obviously thats out of peoples control.

I like the idea, and it seems like it could benefit the user, I would like to see if plasma has anything better already though- no point diluting quality just for quantity.

Giving it a positive vote.

Is there somewhere I can vote for that mockup design? Not seen it here.

Re: Desktop menu?

Agree entirely. The titlebar works well for what it is, the current way of using the menubar is intuitive an doesn't waste a lot of space.

UI
Jun 11 2006  on content Clock advanced

Like the idea, I often need access to these tools, the UI needs work though (no offence), guess that'd be oxygen's job.

Does seem sensible, can't imagine many people being against this.

Plasma
Jun 11 2006  on content HelpBox for kde4

It's a good idea, I just assumed this would be part of Plasma, or the interface would change so it wasn't needed.

Obviously we need these ideas soon enough for them to be implemented but I would like more of an idea of what plasma is aiming at in terms of UI so far so voting on this would make more sense.
