Description:

A simple way to increase free space in windows would be to display the menu in the window decoration.

I made a quick mockup to compare the way we have nowadays and the way it could be tomorow. You have the original screenshot of the kdelook page, and then the modified one.

I just moved the menu in the decoration, I\'m not a GIMP adict, and I just wanted to point out how it should look like, that\'s not an artwork ;-)

 bad idea

1. Legacy applications don't support it.
2. KDE-specific window manager would be required, even when running in another DE.
3. What it the window is sized really small? Then the menu takes up the entire title bar, and you can't move the window!

nice arguments.
Although at first sight it seems nice idea.

I read only Conclusion from the reviews. Saves time.

but... this type of menu can disappear when you're not on the title bar.

I mean, you click on the title bar and the menu appear, you click again and the menu disappear. Appear as a usual menu.

Is there somewhere I can vote for that mockup design? Not seen it here.

Sure, "ibc" posted it here:

It really is a greta design, in my opinion.

You can vote for any kde-look item.
The button is on the right of the title, on top of the central area

 Desktop menu?

by lucher on: Jun 15 2006

I really don't understand these new menu proposals. I have my menu bar integrated with kicker which looks good, feels good - and saves space...

I believe integrating the menu into the window decoration IS technically possible. As soon as KWin is not used, the classic menu will be shown. But I prefer having the application name and the name of the open document in my window dec. imho bad idea.

Agree entirely. The titlebar works well for what it is, the current way of using the menubar is intuitive an doesn't waste a lot of space.
