Bar on bottom.
Nov 3 2005  on content KlearBox

That bar on the bottom of the screenshot. What is it? Is it kicker just made to look cool or a KDE application all by itself. I a see a lot of people with that at the bottom of their screens.

Thanks.

Ooo... Pretty
Sep 30 2005  on content Water Vapor

I've been a fan of the Water Vapor GTK theme. Now I have something to make Metacity look nice too.

Maybe one day there'll be an icon set as well.

Great

Having worked with SGI Indigo systems for three years at a University, these icons are dead on. However, I think few will find these icons pleasing, except us who remember those systems.

Not Obvious
Jun 16 2005  on content Kmenu Enhancements

There are a couple of problems with this idea.

First, No one will know what the hell those buttons at the top of the menu mean until they click them. Even then, they may not catch on to the idea of how the menu changes when they click on a button. They may see that the menu changes but not really know what it is changing into.

Second, The buttons on the top don't express to a user that they'll do anything at all. A basic user will just think it's menu art or something that's just a KDE thing. Maybe if you made the images tabs, and not buttons, then you might convey that those pictures actually change something. Of course, making the images look like tabs would then make the menu look uglier than a Kmenu being beating with an ugly tree (roots and all.)

The idea is very nice. I like the idea of category menus within one menu. However, the presentation isn't quite right. And I would hate to have to make a little pop-up bubble just to point out what the images above the menu were for. There is so much coming at someone who is using the KDE system for the first time.

Maybe if there was a small label above the images that pointed out that these images change the menu. Say something like 'categories...' just above the images and then hovering over the images produces a tool-tip. Also make the time delay for the tool-tip to appear very low like 1800ms and the fade-away time for the tool-tip to happen 5300ms after the appearance.

It really a tough call on how to do this a good way that people could pick up in no time flat, but it is a really good idea if done right.

Without text?
May 18 2005  on content bluegnome

Is there anyway to get this wallpaper without the text in the middle? Making it a little more distro neutral?
