Description:

Some improvements I think will increase usability of Kmenu.

The Kmenu will have a toolbar at top with icons to change content of menu:

* Recent open applications menu
* All applications menu
* Menu for quick access to home directory
* Favorites menu
* Help menu per application

Will have an applets area, like "find file/folder" applet showed at mockup.

Download link is to a tarball with various mockups for a new kmenu, plus these screenshots.

Please give me feedback.

I'm not sure if I have well understood your idea.

I don't like to have to click too many times. Right now I either use Katapult or with the menu I click 1) when accessing the menu and 2) when starting the app.

Understand me: Your idea looks great, but please think of something that allows to start apps without having to click 10 times. Of course there is this search thing, but you know what I mean.

Anyway, looks great!

I think that your idea of putting some buttons (icons) on top of the menu to select a group of applications isn't too good.
I have to click on kmenu to open it, go with the mouse on top where I have to select the group in which my app is, and then I have to move down another time with the mouse to click on the app... all that just to start the application?
Uhmmm I think it isn't too usable.

Move the mouse is too hard? Groups can expand on mouseover event... and applications can be launched when mouse stops over it icon for a time period.

I move the mouse on a kmenu group, the group opens than I go on the application, and >CLICK<

Hello,

It would also be great to extend the principle of a 'saved session' KDE now has. You could select a few windows for example, or the current desktop, and add this to a sort of 'task'. A 'task' is a group of programs. The programs can be starting with some document already loaded, some template, or an empty document.
Wouldn't it be handy to open the task 'Develop Qt' and that all needed apps are opened at once? kdevelop, qt assistant, some helpful webpage, etc..

Or maybe in the future: So you want a new appointment: open kontact, open the appointment application's new appointment window, fill in some standard values. Now you save this current kontakt window as a task, maybe together with some other relevant open window for that task of making an appointment. In the kde menu, you should now be able to select this task to start up everything for you.
