Re: MSIE? Hell on earth!
Jan 14 2006  on poll Favourite Web Browser?

Hee hee hee. I did just to see what would happen- maybe Konqueror would put up a warning dialog to say, "Are you nuts?!"

The truth is I haven't used MSIE since about the middle of 2003 when I got a real internet connection. On dial-up, everything sucks no matter the browser.

Jan 14 2006  on content baghira-cvs & Suse 10

I would love to use the theme, but I keep getting this error:

/usr/lib/gcc/i586-suse-linux/4.0.2/../../../../i586-suse-linux/bin/ld: cannot find -lacl
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
make[2]: *** [kstyle_baghira_config.la] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory `/home/user/Documents/Other/Themes/KDE/baghira-release/config'
make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/user/Documents/Other/Themes/KDE/baghira-release'
make: *** [all] Error 2

It does this for both the CVS and regular 0.7 tarball. The SuSE 10.0 RPM does not give me the widget style option so that's what I tried to install from source.

Re: Re: can't configure
Jan 12 2006  on content Crystal Clear

I get an error that my automake is too recent:
user@test:~/Documents/Other/Themes/KDE/marlin_build_los-linspireclear-style-1> make -f Makefile.cvs
This Makefile is only for the CVS repository
This will be deleted before making the distribution

*** YOU'RE USING automake (GNU automake) 1.9.6.
*** KDE requires automake 1.6
make[1]: *** [cvs] Error 1
make: *** [all] Error 2
phillip@northwood:~/Documents/Other/Themes/KDE/marlin_build_los-linspireclear-style-1> unsermake -f Makefile.cvs
This Makefile is only for the CVS repository
This will be deleted before making the distribution

Any way to force it? I am using SuSE 10.0 which does not have automake-1.6.

It's to not scare people in the next cubicle over ;)

I know about that because I had to bring my laptop to work over the summer and scared a few inquisitive people silly when they looked over my shoulder and..."Hey! It's not Windows! What the $^%& is it?!"

Yes, but only from within a Windows install in a VMWare Player sandbox with a Linux host. And then as little as I have to because Konq and Firefox on Linux work awfully darn nicely.

Re: kde is purdy :)
Dec 17 2005  on news Linus recommends KDE

Personally, I like how Gnome looks much better than KDE does [ducks]

But why I switched to KDE is that in Gnome, to do more than very simple configuration changes (like change Samba permissions from user to share), you must hack the config files. KDE does not make you do that and it is kind of nice to have the option to use the GUI to configure things.

Also, some of the KDE apps (Konqueror, k3b, kpowersave) are far better than their Gnome equivalents and I've learned it is best to try to use the "native" apps in any DE.
