Corel Capture
Mar 9 2006  on content Taking a snapshot of a window made easy

I remember that Corel Capture could be run in the background. A little icon would appear in the system tray, then you could use it to make screen captures.

I propose an option for KSnapShot that would place it on the system tray immediately when it is started. And of course, captures would be done automaticaly according to options set by the user.

I tried to set the shortcut to just [PrintScreen] but kde would not let me. I'd be happy if that would be possible.

Re: translation
Mar 9 2006  on content Make KDE truly language independent

The system structure should not be translated. Having a unified naming scheme across all languages is actuall a benefit for IT professionals and experts.

For the rest a translation file would be the best solution. For example, it could define that the "Desktop" should be called "Asztal" in Hungarian. If someone prefers to use the local language, then the programs should be able to translate even filenames and system folders.

Of course, methods of viewing and editing of the actual filenames must be retained. For example through a terminal.

Newbie guide
Mar 9 2006  on content My thoughts about "Knames" for "Kapps"

I think that the name problem mostly affects ex-users of windows. They are used to the names used on windows.

For example on Windows the CD burning software my be called Nero. When they transfer to Linux, they have no idea what it is called on a linux system. They need to learn that the CD Burning software for linux (at least one of the best in my opinion) is called K3B.

Using an extra name would not solve anything. In fact it might confuse a lot of people. A better option is displaying the description of the software, which is already solved.

To help newbies learn the names faster, a short guide would be more appropriate. A guide that would explain to newbies, what they can use for burning CDs, what are the available wordprocessors, etc., under Linux. I don't know if such guide already exists, but I wouldn't be supprised if it does.

Integrating a guide into KDE is a better and simpler approach, than adding new names for programs.
