Nov 11 2005  on content MountISO

I too get:

"Error: Could not mount "thecuefile.cue"! Check your system settings."

Where "thecuefile.cue" is of course replaced with the cue file I'm trying to mount.

Anyone?

Openal error
Oct 25 2005  on content Really Slick Screensavers

hmmm... you claim to have "fixed the openal error" but I seem have have still received it:

"
/usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/3.4.4/../../../../x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/bin/ld: cannot find -lopenal
"

I'm still investigating... just thought I would let you know.

Compile Style?

Where is the "configure" script for the style/windec? Or what do I need to run to generate one?

Thx,

Reasonable....
Feb 14 2003  on content Not In My Name

Hey,

I just wanted to say that your reply to my above message was very reasonable and level headed. You laid out your points clearly, and did not flame or sensationalize. Made for a good read.

On a final note, I might say that _I_ am actually one of the MINORITY of Americans that DON'T believe everything we see. I understand what you are talking about when you say most Americans just take their info for granted - it is terrible and we (my friends and I, and some of my professors) talk about it all the time.

That being said.... A BUNCH of people (the majority I think) in the US DO NOT WANT WAR. There have been protests like crazy - even one here at my University. This country is NOT pro war and (as I pointed out earlier) neither am I. But sometimes we have to roll up our sleeves and just get the shit done - whether or not this is a situation where that needs to be done is debateable...

But like I was saying, we ended up having a good discussion around here (another thread was not so good). Thanks for the comments.

Derek

Sigh...
Feb 13 2003  on content Not In My Name

As much as I wanted to stay out of this conversation - I just can't...

I will not try to tell you how you should feel about the situation - because you can never change peoples minds just by telling them too. Instead I will just give you guys some reasons why I think our actions (or plans) are justified.

First let's talk about the differences between Iraq and N. Korea. Something that has been brought up a lot lately is a question of "why don't we wage war on N Korea instead of Iraq?". There are many reasons - but the most obvious one is that we still have diplomatic channels to explore with N Korea while Iraq is a ROGUE STATE - with a rogue dictator.

There is no convincing Saddam. He does not come to Washington DC and sit down and chat with our president. He doesn't speak at the UN and leave himself open to questions and ridicule. He just hides away in Iraq and creates weapons with which he wages war on whomever he doesn't like.

Next we should look at what the UN Security Council's job is - and how it will be effected if we do not act. Just TODAY - this morning in fact - International agencies flagged N Korea as having violated one of their UN agreements as well as several international treaties (because some new missiles were discovered). What happens now? Well, N Korea's case in the UN has been escalated to the Security Council so that they can recommend "punishment" - and or come up with new resolutions. What Iraq is doing is showing N Korea that you don't have to follow UN resolutions because none of the nations will have the balls to actually back them up with force - basically taking all of the power out of the UN, and out of the Security Council.

This is bad for EVERY NATION on this planet, and indeed EVERY PERSON. Just as has been pointed out by several representatives of countries in the UN over the last week, this sort of powerless international body has been seen before: it was called the League of Nations. Indeed, since you want to talk about Nazis so much you should realize that a weak internation peace keeping organization is the thing that first allowed the Nazis to do what they did.

Wet Noodle policies that look good until they come under heat aren't good for anyone.

Ok - I think this post is plenty long enough. I won't go over any other reasons. Before you flame me though, realize that I was against going to war with Iraq for a long time myself. I am not quick to send people off with guns to kill/get killed. But when it comes to world peace, someone has to do something about rogue nations/dictators - or else no one will ever get to sleep at night.

Finally, I would just like to say that THIS is NOT the place for these types of posts. If you want to have a discussion - and post inflamatory stuff - go start yourself a weblog. By looking at the amount of support you got from people around here, it looks like you could get quite a few readers....

No stipples...
Nov 6 2002  on content Gentoo's Larry the Cow

I really like this for my desktop (including the stipples) - but I was wanting to use it as my boot splash as well, but the stipples just don't scale well. Any chance you could release a non-stippled version? Or the actual gimp files so we could just remove the stipples ourselves?

BTW - great wallpaper - thanks for your work!

What distro???
Sep 29 2002  on poll What resolution do you use to run KDE?

I have found that since many distros optimize for i386 X gets slow when you bump up the res. I am running Gentoo now - and everything is slick as could be at 1152x864 with a Geforce3 Ti 500. Try compiling X yourself - or use Gentoo instead and you will definitely see a difference.

Me 2
Sep 29 2002  on poll What resolution do you use to run KDE?

I too use 1152x864

It is because my 17" monitor will do 75Hz at 1152x864 but only 60 at 1280x1024. Plus I think it makes things just the right size.
