But I like the panel
Oct 30 2006  on content Tray replacement

It contains more than just a task bar.

I also have, clock (which I want to be visible at all times), WiFi (KWlan), KMail, Skype and Kopete icons (these IMHO cannot be replaced with transient notifications as I want to know if I have the IM progs on/off and I may not be able to immediately read my emails) and most important of all, CPU Info and Kpowersave with the laptop's battery information.

Other people have more/less things running. I'd hate to see all of these squeezed into every app's titlebar or have to click somewhere to see my battery status.

I also, like you, don't really see the desktop as my apps are usually maximized, so Karamba style widgets for KPowersave is a no-no.

So... the panel has very important function, it displays vital system information and provides quick shortcuts for appropriate actions.

Good idea
Oct 7 2006  on content seasonal desktop (idea)

There is an article on some interesting desktop evolution ideas:

http://pseudocode.org/?p=10

The author essentially talks about a desktop that would reflect the situation outside... time of day, weather, season, etc... useful for environments where users spend large amounts of time at the computer (think work, uni) without access to windows. The desktop could then "tell" them what's going on outside.

Re: Nice idea...
Oct 7 2006  on content Contests for various aspects of KDE 4

That's not necessarily a bad thing. Sometimes borrowing and improving someone elses idea can be a positive thing.

If KDE goes purely for originality, it may become an odd and alienate many users. That said, yes I agree... you wouldn't want KDE to have an completely borrowed L&F.

That could be solved by the contest influenced by popular vote but ultimately judged by a chosen panel.

Oct 3 2006  on content I and my body

While I don't object to the content per se, I do object to this content being mixed in with other, non-controversial content on this site.

There should be a certain presumption that this site can be browsed in various "safe" environments, such as work or family where these images should not be stumbled upon.

If people wish to post nudity, fair enough, ask the admins to create a separate category for this type of content. It does not have to be restricted but at least one is warned about the potential content.
