 nice wallpaper..

Hi Tim,
Though I don't agree with your ideas, I liked the wallpaper. Its good! You know, I prefer dark backgrounds on my desktop, since they are soft on eyes. This one is just right.

By the way, I would use a text like "Heavens declare the glory of nature" :-) well, thats a matter of different views.

Actually, it's a well-known scriptual quote, not something the maker of this wallpaper thought up (which is what those "" things mean ;-)). Also, I personally can't see how the heavens could declare the glory of "Nature". That is, if you are using Nature in its most common context. That being that of physical reality, or as Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary defines it: "The existing system of things; the world of matter, or of matter and mind; the creation; the universe."

Usually when we talk of something being glorified, we're referring to an entity, which would suggest that Nature is an entity. I honestly believe personifying nature is irrational, but then, I guess atheists believe the notion of any all-high intelligence is irrational as well.

I'm not sure if you're being facetious here, so I'll reply to your statement at face value:

Maybe the contributor is saying that nature as a whole (the universe, as you say) is an all-high intelligence.

All things are connected.

Thanks Reks;

Actually, the line is a portion of Psalms 19:1 and 2; "The heavens declare the Glory of God, the skys proclaim the works of His hands".

When a Christian looks at these things, we don't just see "stuff"; we see the majesty and power of God...and it is all meant to point back to God, the One who made us.

Again, thanks.

Yes, your getting better Tim.
However I'm not sure the blueish drop shadow on the smaller pic is right.
However I'm no art critic. :-)

Thanks.

I know what you mean. I debated the drop shadow. I might try redoing it with one that is more transparent.

Thanks for the encouragement...

Thanks Chris...but I certainly can't take credit for the artwork...The glory goes to God!...all I did was arrange two pictures.

I like those gas pillar formations in the smaller one...great stuff!

Better? Putting the religious debate aside that looks like a realistic Edward Munch painting - which you really don't want to see... :(

I'm sorry for having to point this out, but you do realise that the pictures used to create this background (which by the way is really nice, Tim :) Thumbs up from this end) are from NASA's website? Or are you reffering to the way they are aranged?

I would probably say, as an aestetic little nit-bit, Tim, you might want to try to blur the border between the subject and the black background on the inset picture a bit (it distracts a bit that it's got such a sharp border on an otherwise soft motif).

From the website you linked:

Unless otherwise specifically stated, no claim to copyright is being asserted by STScI and it may be freely used as in the public domain in accordance with NASA's contract. However, it is requested that in any subsequent use of this work NASA and STScI be given appropriate acknowledgement. STScI further requests voluntary reporting of all use, derivative creation, and other alteration of this work. Such reporting should be sent to

I think the first one is a reasonable request.

well, the horsehead nebulae would be nice to see, if ya find decnet shots somewhere. NASA does have a few, but they're most likely copyrighted in one from or another.

Yes, check out the link in the message below; they have what you want there. It's not copyrighted and if you use it, all they ask (I think) is that you give them credit.

More of these are available here http://heritage.stsci.edu/ without the words. Beautiful pictures, all of them, though all computer color enhanced, not as we would see them. Not natural. They are released in the Public Domain.
