Description:

For other evangelical Christians...a great improvement over the original.

"Believe on" is accurate...from the KJV...which was chosen over other translations due to the faithfulness to the original idea; that of trusting, not just intellectual ascent.

If you haven't already done so, and have the time, why not send KDE-LOOK an email thanking them for allowing a variety of work? Thanks!

Changelog:

Replaced "glowing steel" effect with regular drop shadow.

Added second paper.

 free community

by reignbow on: Oct 7 2003

Score 50%

The open source community has always promoted free uttering of opinions (calling wallpapers "speech" is a bit odd, in my opinion). Meaning that we have to bear this guy's missionary attempts with a minimum of grace. Erasing his work would be excessive censorship, and leaving this site permanently just because of him is paying him too much attention.

Fortunately, this stuff is always easily identified and avoided. Also, this is beginning to spawn counter-missionary satanistic art. The first try wasn't all that hot, but I look forward to getting cool pentagrams and arcane symbols to decorate my desktop with. Last but not least, this wannabe missionary isn't all that good an artist - free opinion and all that aside, we can still flame him for making ugly wallpapers. Alternatively, you can maliciously ignore his postings and privately deny his existence.

 My Thoughts

by newLux on: Oct 7 2003

Score 50%

I started coming to this site before I even had
linux installed on my system. A few days
later, some guy, which I hadn't seen post
anything before, started putting up pictures
that I found quite ugly. I however did not
bash him for not being able to draw. I started
out just about as badly as he did. I tried to
give a few helpful hints that I could think of
and go on my way. I must say, I am not a
super devout Christian and in many ways
I have a lot of problems with the Church of
Christ. However, I have not been posting
anti-christ pictures and I don't think that
anyone should be doing the same if it is
soley for slamming Tim for his art. If you
feel really compeled to make satanic art, I
will simply skip over it. I feel no reason to
jump on you for your beliefs and tell you that
you shouldn't post on this site simply because
of that. In my opinion, that is against the law.
So stop jumping down this poor guys throat
for what or who he believes in, and there
is no point in leaving the site over this. Just
skip over the art and the comments.

Christ is my operating system, KDE is my manager.

i agree....i have seen some extremely ugly pictures on this site...know what i do? i click the back button, or, if i see a way to improve on the picture, i will post a *polite* comment saying that 'hey, maybe you could do this part a little different because i think it would look better'. i dont go around saying 'dude, this is the worst thing ive ever seen'. i always thought kdelook was better than that. personally, i agree with Tim in his beleifs. i'll admit that some of his art isnt of the highest quality, but it is getting better.
and about the satanist art that has started circulating throughout kdelook...technically, isnt that doing the same thing that Tim is doing..."forcing their religion on others", according to a few people who voiced their dislike for Tim's artwork. also, when you guys post your anti-Tim propaganda, aren't you guys doing exactly what you are preaching (yes, preaching) about...think about that before you go bashing Tim. you guys (referring to the people posting negative remarks) are a bunch of hypocrites...if you are going to post something, make sure it doesnt go against your beleifs, being dont shove your opinions down my throat.
I looked at the got satan? wallpaper for a comparison to the 'poor quality' of Tim's....hmmm...plain, gray background with a white hand making devil horns, a demon logo stolen from Kennett High School, and the words 'got satan?' in a boring, white font....atleast Tim's wallpapers have cool pictures, for example, Job's Hydrology...that was a really cool picture....i liked the pleiades bound pic, also.
"I cannot believe that so many people seem to be in favor of shuting this guy up." (crazypenguin)...i also am confused as to why everyone gets so angry over a few wallpapers with scripture on them...there is absolutely no reason to be slamming Tim like that! the only reason that i can say about the people who continually slam Tim is you guys are, what fault said in a previous post, "a close-minded bigot". I try to be as open minded as possible, so that i am able to hear someone's beleifs, ideas, or criticism, and say 'ya know, maybe you're right', instead of 'that's the stupidest thing i've ever heard', which is how i am perceiving most of the posts in this thread.
I am glad that Tim has had the balls to post all of his wallpapers and not be discouraged by people who do not agree with him. And i hope that in the future, we will be able to discuss religion like civilized linux users, instead of bickering and arguing like children.
Keep it up, Tim!

Chris

 Censorship

I cannot believe that so many people seem to be in favor of shuting this guy up. I personally dislike the wallpaper: it looks ugly and I disagree with the message.
However, this does NOT give me the right to try to censor the guy. If we are to call ourselves members of the open-source community it's time to start acting like it: be OPEN-minded people.

I don't believe censorship is ever the answer. But I also believe that it is irresponsible to post these sorts of things here. Keep your religions to yourselves people. A public forum such as this is not the place for it. There are plenty of more appropriate places out there where you can talk about jesus, satan or [insert diety here].

"not in public"...

Why not? Jesus Christ died for my (our) sin in public, nailed to a cross, naked, beaten and scourged beyond recognition. He wasn't ashamed to do that for me (us), and I am not ashamed of Him!

If this offends you, God bless you. I'm not angry at you and if I saw you and you needed help I'd give it to you. But let me quote comedian Brad Stine...

Put a Hemet On!

What the hell are you talking about? Are you sure you are responding to my post?

"Why not? Jesus Christ died for my(our) sin in public, nailed to a cross, naked, beaten and scourged beyond recognition. He wasn't ashamed to do that for me (us), and I am not ashamed of Him!"
What does any of that have to do with what I posted? You believe in Jesus. Great. Grand. Whatever. We are all aware of that fact. Do you want a friggin medal or something?

"If this offends you, God bless you. I'm not angry at you and if I saw you and you needed help I'd give it to you."
I'm not offended by your beliefs or your artwork. I don't know what it was in my post that made you think that I could be.

All I was saying is, censorship is never a good thing for whatever reason. But to post stuff like you have (Judea-Christian themed material) at a place like this (a public forum where not everyone shares the same ideas) is bound to cause trouble. It always has and it always will. I think you of all people know this due to the amount of 'retaliation' material posted here lately in direct response to your work. I come here looking for quality material for my desktop. And lately this place has been chock full of crappy artwork posted by people that just want to get a cheap-shot in on that christian guys work, and then the christian guys buddy has to post somethign equally as horrid to get back at him. Let that process run for a couple of weeks and this place will turn into a literal garbage dump. Religion is always a very touchy topic will almost always errupt into an all out war when openly expressed at a place like this. Be the bigger man and recognize that fact. Post your material in a more appropriate forum. One that you know is full of people that share your ideas or are at least curious about them. Not here. It is totally irresponsible in my opinion. Thanks.

Three things:

My work is what I am responsible for. I am NOT responsible for retaliatory work, which is the decision of other individuals. Nor am I responsible for posts entered as arguments. However, if I am asked a reasonable question, I will answer it.

Second. This is an "open" board...and there is a group here that wants the work. Just as others want some of the other *controversial* stuff.

Thirdly, I reject "non-offense" as a criteria for appropriateness. Frankly, too many people have skins for everything but themselves!

I could cry about alot of stuff I see on here, but I don't. I have *yet* to post one negative comment for anything on KDE-LOOK. It's a choice. If you don't like it, pass it by!

Thanks,

Tim

You DID say *Keep it to yourself*. That is what I'm addressing.

To *keep it to myself* is a direct conflict with the charge given believers. You are assuming, I think, that CHristanity is a "private" thing. Personal, not private.

It's not.

Censorship is indeed a dangerous thing... but there is a place for everything.

This kind of content should not be banned from the web, as nudity should not be banned from it.

This not mean that it should be allowed everywhere, I think nudity and religion should not be on general sites like kde-look, those who want it can go to specific sites.

I think that all people should be able to come here, inlcuding children. I would not want my children (if I had them yet) to watch pornography, and I would not want them exposed to religous material when their minds are still vulnerable to manipulation.
