Description:

This is a beautiful background that I found and changed. Note, I am not the origional artist of any part of this, I took elements from various other wallpapers and put them together, specifically, I covered a certain corporations logo with a similar symbol from the open source community. I'm not sure if this is copy written material or not. If this turns out to be illegal please take it down. I made it for use on my own desktop, and thought you guys might like a copy, so I'm putting it up. Let me know what you think. ^_^

I appreciate the work that you've done in creating this wallpaper. However, I don't understand the motivation to make Ubuntu resemble Vista. In my opinion, Ubuntu is superior to Vista in both form and function. To make Ubuntu like Vista is to cheapen it.

I'm just commenting. I haven't voted your work down. Maybe there are a lot of people out there that disagree with me and prefer the vista look.

I agree :D ! Instead we could use our potential to make Ubuntu have its own style! Better than Vista or MacOSX!

Okay, Vista is really stupid in a lot of ways. However, it does do pretty well. So yes, personally I like the glossy sleek black look of Vista. Don't get me wrong, I agree that Ubuntu should have it's own look, but in my opinion, the current Ubuntu look is kinda ugly. I'm just not an Orange and Brown kind of guy. My laptop ends up
looking nothing like vista, take a
look:

Tell me the background doesn't suit the overall look of the desktop.

La autorización, Vista es realmente estúpida en muchos de maneras. Sin embargo, hace el pozo bonito. Tan sí, personalmente tengo gusto de la mirada negra lisa brillante de Vista. No me consiga el mal, yo convienen que Ubuntu lo tenga sea propia mirada, pero en mi opinión, la mirada de Ubuntu de la corriente es un poco fea. Soy justo una clase no anaranjada y marrón de individuo. Mi computadora portátil termina encima de no mirar nada como Vista, toma una mirada:

I don't like Ubuntu current style too, man ;) ! That's why I would like to see a new shiny and original visual style for our Ubuntu. Anyway...your desktop is very nice :D!

I like to use the vista look, it's nice in public, people ask me if I have the same problems I laugh and say no this is really linux. Muhahaha. I get a bit of a kick out of it.

My Engineering class got a grant to build top of the line computers for around $600. We put Ubuntu on them but I made them look like Vista because we're selling to Windows users who know nothing about Linux.

In my opinion, it eases the transfer from Windows to Linux by giving them something familiar to latch on to. We provided instructions to remove the Vista theme if they wished to get the Ubuntu feel.

That sounds like a very interesting project. How successful was the familiar look and feel in easing the transition for Ubuntu newcomers when they encountered things like the synaptic Package Manager that represent deep architectural and philosophical differences between Windows & Linux?

Also, did you guys attempt an XP makeover for Ubuntu to appeal to ordinary users that were happy with XP but were forced into a migration when the bought a new computer that had Vista preinstalled?
