Description:

(This is only a mockup and I have no idea if this is technically possible)

Kopete could allow to drag n' drop a contact from the contact list to the desktop or a panel. This action creates a plasmoid which shows the status of these contacts and allows to start a chat, send a mail...

A "Notify me when this contact comes online" option should be nice too.

This is already implemented, but not completed, search for khalkhi in dev blogs...

Actually, I was thinking about a dataengine which provides informations about contacts (from Telepathy/Decibel). See http://techbase.kde.org/Projects/Kopete/Roadmap#Full_integration_of_Telepathy.2FDecibel for informations about future integrations of this framework in kopete.
Thanks to this dataengine, it could be easily possible to do various IM related plasmoids. Ex: maybe a panel menu which shows your contacts like in this mockup : http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php/Kde4+Mockup?content=28476

Maybe I dream too much, I don't really know what it is possible to do with those dataengines/plasmoid actually. Perhaps someone can confirm ? (anyway, this is just an idea)
