I applied the config with good results in general. However, the whole layout vastly exceeds the height of a single line. Mabe i missed something?

Like your theme. But when I try to import to emerald manager i get error message that it is not a tar file. Can you help?

how do you install the theme? I know this sounds dumb but am chaging the theme of gnome for the first time in my life.

You'll must use the Emerald Theme Manager (and certainly Compiz Fusion).
Package calls "emerald".

After the installation, you'll find his in system > preferences.
Afterward click import button and seek on your disk the *.emerald file for install.

Am an ubuntu user and I still could not get the same black top and bottom panels. How do you accomplish this, o master of masters?
P.S: Am still the newbiest newbie.

Color of panels depends from GTK THEME.
So, if you want to accomplish the black panels, you'll must install in your system gtk theme, which has a black color on panels.
