Description:

Although this version is now completely obsolete, there's still a large amount of traffic coming through this page. The download links now point to resources relevant to the new version.

Changelog:

0.2.6.5 - Updated some broken URLs.

0.2.6 - Updated tangerine icons, fixed a few pixel bugs. Run 'rm -rf ~/.tango-generator' after downloading to upgrade.

0.2.5 - Added network manager icons, beryl & emerald icons, fixed broken links, added a few additional icons. Cleaned up some code elsewhere. The upgrade should be fairly seamless this time.

0.2.1 - fixed another stupid bug.

0.2 - Synced packages with upstream, updated listen icons, cleaned up index.theme, switched openoffice packages, added many additional icons, added Tango GTK Icons as option, fixed emblem placement, fixed numerous crashes. Many things are changed in this release, so you should run 'rm -rf ~/.tango-generator' in the console before first run to see all updates.

0.1.7.1 - Improved handling of gimp installations, fixed error when gconf editor is selected but not the cpu applet.

0.1.7 - Vastly improved priorities robustness. Improved XFCE support & drew & added image-position-size icon.

0.1.6(.1) - Fixed various bugs that shouldn't have existed...

0.1.6 - Fixed gimp removal bug.

0.1.5 - Big Update:
Changed to correct 'robots' icon. Drawn and added new dia & gnome-planner. Updated trunk icons (gnome, tango). Improved support for fedora Core 6. Added bluetooth & firewall icons. Improved lock/key metaphors.

To Upgrade to this release you'll need to run 'rm ~/.tango-generator/archives/gnome.tar.gz' at the terminal.

0.1.2 - added a few more icons and additional sizes of others. You'll need to run "rm -rf ~/.tango-generator/archives/custom-app-icons/" if you're upgrading.

0.1.1 - Corrected Tango Materia and finishing installation after installing additional icon packages.

0.1 - initial release of version 2 (Version 1 quickly became unmaintainable).

Just wanted to say thanks for the update...Even though I a Windows User...I use tango icons through out my whole desktop...I've been using Tango-Generator since the 1st version...Just wanted to say keep up the good work...and ito ask one question...Well there ever be a version that just downloads all the PNG's regardless of what you have on you Linux distro?

Again...Thanks for the update...

Just selecting gnome will download all the PNGs. It will install them aswell but they can easily be removed if you don't wish. You can find all the downloaded data in ~/.tango-generator/archives and the merged theme in ~/.tango-generator/tmp

robots and solitaire share the same icon (cards)

Is there an icon for the planner app?

great generator!

Sounds like the robots one is a bug... I'll look into it. The only icon I can think of for planner is evolution branded. Tango Icons are in CVS, but not for the actual app itself.

the liferea theme isn't complete, so a lot of icons are missing.

Is there a way to theme file-roller?

And I saw a system-upgrade.png, I would like to use it with synaptic, but I don't know how. Do you plan to add synaptic support? (I think it's the only one that needs to be themed)

Synaptic is themed, but you have to run 'sudo ln -s /home/[yourname]/.icons /root/.icons'. Liferea should be themed fine if you select it in options and use the generated gnome theme. If not, please post the output of 'locate liferea/pixmaps/liferea.png | grep -v /home/

synaptic:

I linked it, but it doesn't work. Do I need to do something else?

rodgersan@LINUX:~$ locate liferea/pixmaps/liferea.png | grep -v /home/
/usr/local/share/liferea/pixmaps/liferea.png
/usr/share/liferea/pixmaps/liferea.png

I restarted and everyting goes fine...

I'm not sure - this may be something with older versions of synaptic that I'll need to look into. I've only tested with ubuntu 7.04 (feisty pre-release).

Just to clarify, does liferea work for you now? Judging from that output, you've got to pixmap dirs whereas you should only have one.

my fault, I've compiled a recent version 1.2.0 (not so recent) without uninstalling the previous with synaptic, so your app installs in the old folder....

sorry for wasting your time with that and thank you for your help.

(No Edit:)
File Roller icons are actually compiled into the binary, so there's no practical or safe way to theme it.

After taking a look at the sauce, I found the problem:
In installation.py at line 250, you used "FTango" instead of "Tango" =P
Always the silliest mistakes...

 suggestions

by udolf on: Mar 24 2007

Score 50%

i tried this a while ago (not the most recent versions so maybe its changed since) and ive got a couple of suggestions

firstly there should be a way to revert to the original themes. for example i was unable to change back to the original gaim icons when i found i disliked what tango-generator had given me

and there should perhaps be a warning saying something like: warning, changing some of these icons could make it difficult to revert back to the originals or similar

imho it would be better if the program didnt apply the changes and isntaed created individual scripts for each app or something, accompanied by a revert scrip for the same apps...just my thoughts. as i said i didnt try any recent version

I'm not sure what you mean, but simply unchecking an item on the second screen will uninstall it. Worse comes to worse, tango-generator creates a folder or file with extension .bak containing a backup of everything it's touched. If you've some how deleted that, reinstalling the app using your distro's tools will fix it.

The previous version of the generator - which I discontinued - didn't install gaim icons or anything of the like.

Well maybe I'm wrong, :) but I can't install the green or foxtrot folders even with them in the highest position (so highest priority, if I'm correct)

I tried with many configurations, withtout success...

It's hard to create the perfect set :P
