Vary window effects with focus level

Description:

[I start out with transparency stuff, but read on and see this is about more then that]

Currently the composite effects in KDE only define one level of transparency for unfocused windows. This makes it hard to determine the stack order of the windows.

I propose a variable transparency option that will fade windows depending on where they are in the stack. The user can configure the min/max opacity to use. For example:

User settings specify that background windows should vary between 50-10% opacity. If there are 6 windows on the screen:
topmost background window (2nd in stack) opacity: 50% (max)
next window (3rd in stack): 40%
next window (4th in stack): 30%
next window (5th in stack): 20%
bottom window (5th in stack): 10% (min)

Of course there are all kinds of fun ways to extend this, like:
- selectable fade direction (reverses the order)
- incorporate other effects that have a sliding scale, like saturation/intensity/hue/etc.
- graphical or text representation of window level in titlebar

I hope this makes sense. Basically allow more analog control rather than the binary focused/non-focused configuration.

 My imagination fails

I am having trouble imagining what this is supposed to look like. A mock-up up of what you imagine this to look like would help.

Here is a mockup:

100 % to 60 %.

Personally, I don't like transparent windows.

If you want this, you should request it on bugs.kde.org for kwin. if you don't, it'll get lost here. I think it's a sensible idea, so pls post it on bugs.kde.org...

 Idea sensible?

no, I don't think this is really sensible ... Personally, i am rather confused when looking at these stacking windows.
I would rather favour seeing different levels of saturation than of transparency.
