Description: this is how to use Xscreensaver in KDE it is easy 1: Switch off KDE's screen saver. Open the ``Control Center'' and select the ``Look and Feel / Screensaver'' page. Turn off the ``Enable Screensaver'' checkbox. 2: Find your Autostart directory. Open the ``Look and Feel / Desktop / Paths'' page, and see what your ``Autostart'' directory is set to: it will probably be ~/.kde3/Autostart/ or something similar. 3: Make xscreensaver be an Autostart program. Create a file in your autostart directory called xscreensaver.desktop that contains the following five lines: [Desktop Entry] Exec=xscreensaver Name=XScreensaver Type=Application X-KDE-StartupNotify=false Now use xscreensaver normally, controlling it via the usual xscreensaver-demo (1) and xscreensaver-command (1) mechanisms. Actually, KDE supports xscreensaver itself. When I go into KControl : Appearance & Themes : Screen Saver, I get more than 120 entries. This is because all my xscreensaver savers are listed, and they work just as well as KDE screensavers.
I think that they are dectected at compile time however, so maybe this is why you don't see them.

Its not a distro option.. its a KDE version =) As of KDE 3.1 xscreensaver is supported inside of KDE.

Try to install kscreensaver, I think it helped for me..

Or maybe I've done something else.. At least it works with my 3.1 and with 3.1.90, too..

Yeah, but you'll find that many configuration options are missing when you use the XScreensaver modules via KScreensaver.

KDE (from 3.0 on, anyway) has always (on my system) listed all available xscreensaver entries in the KControl screensaver module.

Read the docs, this is standard behavior

I only have four screensavers listed in KDE.
In GNOME, I have oodles of them.

I'm confused.

if you use kde's screensavers, you can setup Xscreensavers by running xscreensaver-demo. just don't start the xscreensaver daemon. and vice-versa, if you're using xscreensaver, you can add kde screensavers to the xscreensaver list and set them up in the kde control center. i like using xscreensaver cause it think it just works better. i've got an issue with kde and locking the screen if i'm watching a movie or video in xine and just quit xine while the movie's playing, kde will refuse to lock the screen. xscreensaver still works in this situation. the only issue i have with xscreensaver is the cycle screensaver when using just one screensaver. it's supposed to cycle only if using multiple screensavers, but it's still cycles if using only one screensaver.

btw, to add a kde screensaver to xscreensaver, just add "kde_screensaver_name.kss --root" to your ~/.xscreensaver file. if you need to find the name .kss screensaver, just do a find .kss or something like that.
