I always find the end sessions dialog's a bit boring too.

It looks nice but where are the reboot options? Where I can choose wich os should boot the next time? And the Cancel-Button should look different from the others I think.

the OS to boot would have to be chosen by you, when grub/lilo loads.

I think it would be possible to select what to reboot next time. Is there's a better way then having a script modify the bootloader conf files, though?

For instance:
$SU $SOMEDIR/reboot-windows.sh #called by the button

reboot-windows.sh
#!/bin/env sh
mount /boot
sed 's/default 0/default 1/g' /boot/grub/grub.conf > /boot/grub/grub.conf
reboot

Or would all this be a horribly dangerous or otherwise bad thing to do?

 Background

I agree that your mockup looks very nice. But what if the background picture of the shutdown dialog was the current wallpaper, just not b/w like outside the dialog. I think that it would integrate a lot better into any desktop scheme, then, kinda like how Yakuake's menu bar background is a stripe of the current wallpaper.

there is already a patch for kde3 available, which adds theming capabilities for the session and logout window... I dont know where to get it, but its originally from redflag linux and aaron seigo blogged about it, saying that it works but that there are some licensing issues there before it can be released - but i dont remember exactly...

I think the ability to theme this would be amazing and essential for the fully customized look
