Middle click command line

Description:

I'd quite like to be able to middle click whitespace in any folder (or use a hotkey) and it will open a little command line.

It should grow and shrink as text is entered or deleted.

While the mini commandline is open middle clicking another file will add it to the buffer (at the current point of the I beam) including the path to it if required

To close the mini-command line press a hotkey while its the active window. It will also close after a period of inactivity.

If you press enter and you're command produces no output the miniterminal will close (that includes pressing enter with an empty line).

If it produces a small amount of output the miniterminal remains open and displays the output. Expanding vertically if need be.

If a lot of output is produced then the mini terminal turns into a proper Konsole, complete with command history.

What will happened in situation, when some error or a long output is produced?

Good point. The logical thing would be to display the error/output. I'll modify the suggestion to say that.

you may take a look how the ion3 window manager manages a similar command line function.

But maybe not middle click to show it. Why you ask.
Well, you use the keyboard to write the command(s). I think it would be nice if you didn't have to move your hand from the keyboard.

But something like this would be nice, I have thought of a terminal in Konqueror too. Not like the "Terminal Emulator", more like the F7 in Kate or : in Vim.

I like the idea of using a Hotkey to open the mini-command line and I'll add that to the proposal

However I still think it should be a terminal emulator.

Yeah I like the idea very much. Many times i need a console just to write one line of commands when I am looking at some folders in Konqueror. It would be very useful.

and this since times!

menu -> Window -> Show Terminal Emulator

It could be usefull to give this menu item a key combination, though.

A mouse based opening of the terminal is a bad idea and not UNIX! Left button. selection, right button: context menu, middle button: clipboard! Thus, there already are all mouse buttons in use.
Additionally, showing an inputline at the current mouseposition might look interesting, but I am uncertain if it improves usuability compared with a static terminal emulator line at the window buttom.

regards

Wow I never knew that. Its great to see it.

I checked and you can assign a hotkey to opening that :) in Konquorer chose configure then keyboard shortcuts.

What's the etiquate here? do I delete this whole suggestion or leave it for future refrence?

P.S. about you're its not UNIX point, I used the middle mouse button to copy a file to the command line (e.g. type 'grep foobar' then middle click a file) and to open the command line by clicking whitespace, can't copy whitespace so IMO it fits in with the rest of UNIX

Didn't know you could assign a hotkey to show it. Nice!
However, I would like to see this even more improved. Animation to show/hide? A kind of side bar, like Kate's terminal (optional to place it top/bottom/left/right). Etc. :)
