Description:

Hm, let's see what we have here... :) First of all, Linux 2.4.19 under the hood. XFree86 4.3 (well really 4.2.99, or whatever the latest in CVS is) providing that awesome shadowed/translucent/full color mouse pointer. Mmm useless eye candy :) Also here is KDE 3.1 (also from CVS), with a few custom hacks on the Desktop icon text (the black halos around text). And Mosfet's Liquid style with even more custom patches from me. Also in this shot is my custom kwin theme, and the "iTuned" XMMS skin. Oh, and MPlayer is showing a Jars of Clay concert. The awesome icons are from the SNOW.E icon theme for MacOS X, converted with the help of the icns2png program.

 WICKED!

Dude... u've got a really cool setup there.... I see you have hacked the desktop icon fonts to do the black edgeing... is it possible to hack it to do a drop shadow? This is something I talked about with a friend (Soto), a while ago... just offsetting the text +1x, +1y, in a darker colour, then drawing the text at +0x, +0y to give the effect...

Keep up the good work... we need people like u hacking man!

Regards

Mo

Yop, it's definately possible. I'm working to improve my quick halo hack with a configurable version and a more complete behavior: people using my code might have noteiced the unpleasant behavior when the item is selected.

Also, there will be 3 (or 4) shadow algorithms available for people to play with :)

ps: you could have had the kicker pixmap patch added as well :)))

Cheers,

Laur

I couldn't get the kicker patch to work. It just wouldn't cleanly merge with the kicker from HEAD. I tried several times.

Some things must have changed in the kicker code since I did the patch. I'll do an update later today and put out a new patch.

Thanks for pointing that out.

 Icon Text Effect

It's a patch that has already been posted on KDE-Look. Search the main section back a few pages for something called "UI Enhancements." You will probably need kdelibs and kdebase from CVS for it to compile. Currently the only thing possible now is the black outline (though with a sufficiently thick and small font, it kinda looks like a shadow). It was generally agreed on the kde-devel mailing list that a true shadow would be better, and the guy behind the patches is currently working on it. Most likely it will be in KDE 3.2.

...3.1 libs and base are needed. the kdelibs bit of the patch affects only kdeui lib. and it's binary compatible, so it's the only thing you need to build. Then you need to recompile/install kdesktop. However, as mentioned above, it works best with relatively thick fonts (or aliased), the shadow is only black @ this stage. As they say: "stay tuned for a new more configurable verion of the patch" in the next couple of days :)

What did you use to get a screen capture with the mouse? KSnapshot won't do it.

I also would like to know how did you make your screenshot with the mouse cursor. Is it possible at all?

Maybe no one will see this since it's so old, but no, I don't know any way to get a screenshot with the mouse cursor. I overlayed the PNG image of my cursor after I took the shot, just to let everyone see what it looks like.

Sorry for the deception.
