Description:

My graphical skills aren't to good so I'll try to explain it the best I can. We are all familiar with tabbed browsing...now what if we were to take this to a different level. With tabbed browsing you can only view one page at a time but what if we were to split konq into different panes if we so desired. For instance, if we have 2 tabs open we could split konq into a top half and bottom half or vertically through menu option e.g. menu>split pane vertically/horizontally...the top pane would contain one page the bottom the other...each pane would have there own location bar so you could easily browse and view more then 1 page at a time. I think a feature like this would be extremely useful especially if you're like me and have many tabs open at a time and like to view many pages. If anyone has ever used the ion window manager think of it kinda like this.

 Feat already exists

and is quite nifty! I think it is a part of the Konqueror Plugins, which in FreeBSD Ports is in misc/konq-plugins.

Split view Left/Right - Ctrl+Shift+L
Split view Top/Bottom - Ctrl+Shift+T
Close active view - Ctrl+Shift+R

The existing interface doesn't have separate Location Bars, which would be quite lovely; it isn't always easy to tell which pane is active, depending on your theme.

If I understand correctly, what he is saying is that it would be nice to have the tabs effect the split panes. So I could have three or four tabs and then assign them to different panes by activating the pane and then switching the tab. I think that would be great since panes are of limited usefulness to me as they are restricted to the tab they were created on (I can't put the contents of tab 2 into the bottom pane of tab 1).

 Already doable

If I'm understanding you correctly, you can already do this with Konqueror.

Just load your "Web View" profile then click on Window>Split view left/right or Window>Split View top/bottom. Then click an area in the one pane to activate it and type in your url, then click an area in the opposite pane and type a different url.

Sorry if I'm misunderstanding you.

Oops, Kephnos beat me to it.

Sorry for the redundancy.

 split panes

What I mean is if you want to view 2 seperate webpages at the "same" time you would need two instances of konq open and resized accordingly on the screen. Rather than open 2 instances we could split konq into viewing panes to allow easy viewing and navigation.
