Description:

This is a Kommander frontend for ATI fglrx video card driver utility "aticonfig".

It can be used to:
* configure X.org xith newly installed fglrx driver
* setup tv-out and tune it up
* set up different screen configuration options
* view the current configuration of X.org from /etc/X11/xorg.conf file and elsewhere
* back up the working configuration options
* revert to open source driver and back to fglrx.

It is tested on Ubuntu Dapper Drake (6.06) system with fglrx 8.26.18 and 8.27.10 versions, but should also work with older fglrx versions, that provide "aticonfig" utility.

The Ubuntu deb also includes a manpage and a KDE Handbook, upon install it is added to the KDE menu.

Please send comments or bug reports to the author of the program. I could enhance the program to use more of aticonfig options, but I will need volunteers who would advise me on the use of aticonfig. I can use it just for setting up TV-out, eiter in single head clone mode, or dual head.

Changelog:

=== 2006-08-16 ===
version 0.8
- a major rewrite of the program to include many more functions;
- now the script asks for the root rights itself, just double-click it
- TV geometry does not seem to be working, but it is "aticonfig" fault, not mine :)

=== 2006-08-03 ===
version 0.1.1
- corrected the error because of which the dialog would not start, producing error: "kbuildsycoca running... Parse error: tag mismatch in line 148"

=== 2006-08-03 ===
version 0.1
- first release of the program.

worked for me :) Still, I replaced the plain text file with a bzipped version.

In case something does not work, try this link: http://dg.lapas.info/share/paketai/kommander/fglrxkonf/fglrxkonf.kmdr.bz2

Not sure what this means. Can you execute other Kommander scripts?

You don't need to install it. Just extract the file fglrxkonf.kmdr, open Konsole, cd to the directory with the script, and execute "kdesu kmdr-executor fglrxkonf.kmdr". You will be prompted for the root password and the script will launch.

Simply clicking the script in Konqueror window will also launch the script via kmdr-executor, but it will be started as a normal user, not as root, so you will not be able to modify the xorg.conf file.

 Other distros

Should I perhaps convert the package from debian into other distributions packages using alien or something? Does alien produce usable packages?

alien is not really recommended for such tasks. I would rather suggest either to find packagers (on mailing lists, forums, ... or so) or just keep it as normal *.kmdr file. It's working this way too! The chance to affect a system unrepairable by "foreign" not native packages is higher IMHO.
I run a Debian/Sid and even I would NOT use your ubuntu-"Debian"-package because both systems have slight differences as you know. People would report bugs which are none at all.
Give your tool some time. It's usefull and therefore people will adopt it soon.

BTW, great work. Thx

I don't think you can damage the system with this simple thing, but I have checked, alien does not produce suse rpm's with files in /opt, so it is perhaps not worth it.

If you use simple *.kmdr, you miss the documentation (the docbook and the manpage).

Yes, but I have no idea how to implement it. Any ideas? If someone could provide a shell script that would print out just the average fps value over, say, two seconds, it would help me a lot.
