Description:

Domino is a style with a soft look. It allows to fine adjust the shininess of the widgets by customizable color gradients.

Changelog:
0.4
* new option for indented / non indented menu items
* new option for highlighted tool button icons on mouse over
* the button look for tool(bar) buttons is now optional
* new rubberband options
* smaller tabWidget margins
* respects Gwenview's / Kicker's taskbar applet / Konversation's own mousewheel handling for scrollviews
* clipped popup menu edges, for a better look with KWin's shadows (Beryl seems not to support it).
* fixes pixmaps on PowerPC architecture
* fixes functionality of some popup QToolButtons and adapts their look and behavior to KToolBarButtons
* the content of popup menus with a side pixmap is visible again (Amarok, Digikam)
* adapts KMenu's section header style
* fixes Kickoff's tab icon alignment
* fixes possible crash with enabled text effect
* lets apps using their own label colors on tabs (if they're not defaulting to a fixed color like konsole)
* decoration: option "dark window frame" draws a darker frame
* decoration: borders are hidden when in maximized mode and moving / resizing of maximized windows is not allowed.

This is a superb style/theme - I was after one with a 'narrow' scrollbar, and this fits the bill nicely - and all of it is very well polished.

Thanks again :-)

 kicker crash

Very nice style.
I love the rounded edges and softness that this style possess.
Unfortunately, this style makes kicker crash, whenever I open K-Menu.
Is this a common problem ?
It loads the menu, and I can catch a view of it for a second, then kicker crashes.
If I select a different style, it works.
I have tried uninstalling, and installing again. Tried removing configuration files aswell. Still the same.
If your are interested in a traceback, please reply.

Sorry, suse uses a patched k-menu with toolButtons on it, couldn't test it here on gentoo.
This patch should fix it (a kmymoney crash, also)
Use it from inside the sources:

 best.style.ever

I just wanted to note that I continously use this style since it was published. It is just great to look at, simple, smooth and clean.

Finally, I am getting used to the interesting 'hasFocus' indicator showing shadows on the selected text. Very nice! I can't await the next release, hopefully including configurable text shadows and mouse hover effects.

I've played a bit with the shadows and found out that making it configurable is not so easy.
The shadowEngine, which is used for the icons on the desktop is too slow, but Xfs has the ability to draw the text with a transparency and drawing it nine times under the orginal text looks also good:
http://img207.imageshack.us/img207/4536/shadowedtextor7.png

But this means I have to draw the text myself (direct access to xfs functions because qt3's alpha value is hardcoded) and I'm not a Xfs guru.
The problems I stuck on here are the right coordinates and localized text. If I don't find a solution we have to wait for KDE4 :(

Regarding the mouse hover effects: the button border effect which changes its color is finished, the surface effect is on the todo list.

Unfortunately the last two weeks I didn't worked much on the style (a bit frustrated), but I ordered yesterday a new monitor and probably at least pixmapping will make more fun with it :)

Well, so far it just sound good!

And honestly: I can wait for KDE4 as long as I know that some great things are coming and they are not forgotten. KDE has ever been a work in progress.

Here is a little bug report though: I originalyl sent this to the scribus team but it seems to be originated in Domino style that Scribus is creashing at startup. I send you the output here:

I have changed some things with the groupbox (customizable color) and I can't reproduce the crash here.
Maybe this patch will help:

You currently have single gradient for buttons. How about using different gradients for normal buttons, buttons under mouse, and default buttons? Similar can be done to other widgets also. This would make this style even more customisable. What do you think?

Different gradients maybe, but not for the next release. I implemented different colors for the button contour and tint the pressed button gradients a bit darker now. If people will think it's still insufficient I will add it additionally.

The current color for the menuItem seems not to suit with some color shemes, have to fix this.

Hi Morningred!
I just checked out the new KOffice release and some ideas for your next release hit my head. Just open Krita and you will see what I mean.
(1) The toolbox. Krita has a toolbar with 2 rows. It would be great if Domino could group the toolbuttons like it does for default toolbars.
(2) Widget sizes. Take, for example, the layer box on the right hand side of the screen: It has a combobox with layer effects and a spinbox for the degree. The develöopers tried to mimic Adobe's Photoshop gui by giving it very small font sizes. The tabs are drawn correctly, i.e. quite small. But not the combobox, the spin box, and certainly a few other widgets. The margin around the text seems to be fixed, but should be adjusted to the font size.
The same sizing problem appears with the scrollbars. I know that Qt allows setting the scrollbar's width, but your style prohibits this.

Ciao

Even if the grouping were possible (haven't tryed) I wouldn't know how to draw
the gradients.
In the case of three buttons: a vertical or horizontal gradient or a big one?
Imho there is no way to make it look good.

The Widgets doesn't have a fixed size, you see it on the color box.
The spinwidgets there have a small size and that buttons and comboboxes can also have quite small sizes, you see now and than in khtml.
I don't touch the minimum/maximum or fixed size settings, so it's all up to the applicaton developers and krita seems to be just inconsistend here.

And thanks for mention it :-). I changed the way to draw the text in the comboboxes, but forgot to take over the right font settings.

The scrollbar uses a fixed size pixmap and adjusting the width would be problematic. While for enlarging I could split the pixmap and draw something in the middle (it would look like a round rect), for shrinking I see no way.

Yes, this example looks good, but how should the gradient be drawn if there are only 11 buttons?
http://img204.imageshack.us/img204/171/test3ep7.png
Another problem is that only KToolBar provides the getButton(int id) function. Without such a function, it is not possible to check if the button belongs to a group.
And in kritas case, it uses its own implementation of a toolBar.

If you like you can have a look at the current snapshot with a new raised button type.
http://home.arcor.de/michaellentner/domino-snapshot.tar.bz2
It includes a try of a transparent rubber band (only iconview). One issue is, that it gets messed up when the cursor leaves the viewport rect and I'm too stupid to fix this. Maybe you are in the mood to have a look at it - or some other reader (eventfilter.cpp:221 and domino.cpp:3772)?

Hey, great, thanks!

For the first question:
I prefer the first version. It looks more consistent.

For the new snapshot:
Wow! Mouse hover is implemented! That was missing, indeed!
Though, may a say that you made a mistake?
A button has the following states and should visualize them individually:
o nothing
o mouse hover
o mouse pressed
o keyboard focus
o default button
o toggled
whereby it seem sufficient to collect 'mouse hover' and 'keyboard focus' into one effect.

Toggled:
In the last version you had a wonderful 'toggled' effect where the button looked really like being sunken. In this version you replaced the toggle-effect by the same effect which you use for 'mouse hover'. Bäää!

Keyboard focus:
In 0.2 we just had some blurred shadow around the text. It would be great to have the mouse hover effect of the buttons applied to all other widgets, too. Why? There are many situations where eg. a QRadioButton does not have a text, but eg. an image or nothing.

Default button:
I would prefer something like the old toggled thing. probably a little more sunken or sunken + the colored mouse hover frame

mouse pressed:
Love it. Though: It seems that the button looks flatter. The old implementation was a little better (I believe you darkened the colors for the gradients as well).

Look very promising, though I believe I am gonna switch to the old version for now.

Best regards

This looks already better than the current one. I consider to draw the white part around the whole tabWidget like in the middle part of this screenshot.

By the way, most pixmaps are not finished and may change. The raised toolButton probably will get a tiny verical shadow when pressed, the sunken one its old one but lighter. The radio and checkbuttons haven't exact the same contour color as the buttons and the scrollbar is still the old one.
Today I try to do the scrollbar, with just a bit thinner contour and without the caps.
