It could be done now - by hand. But maybe phonon will be able to do it automatically. I might be able to tell this idea to the Phonon hackers on the KDE Multi Media Meeting in the netherlands, where I will help a bit :D

 Greate

Greate idea! Sometimes I want to watch a little video i just downloaded and with this automatic fade out, I dont have to manipulate my soundsoftware (or videosoftware however).

The last started software should be able to fade out all other software.

But there is a problem: Whats about browser? They can make noise too, so if I start a browser will the sound be fade out too?

Well perhaps you could have a Kcontrol module to give certain apps priority and prevent others from interupting the sound at all.

peace,

 CrossLink / Phonon

Yes, I had this idea already. CrossLink will be able to do things like this when it's finisht.
(--> refer to my example of voIP client and music playing)

However, it *might* be that Phonon will offer something like this too.

And if it doesn't.. Pray that CrossLink will become a success :)

It would be a good idea if the music resumed 0.5 seconds before it started to fad

I love Windows gaming especially the game where you have to do all your work before it crashes.

 Interesting, but...

Interesting, but considering that KDE 4 is phasing out aRTs (or so I'm told), I don't see how this could be implemented in a reasonable manner.
