Description:

A hopefully good looking theme for GDM Greeter. Suitable for any resolution from 640x480 to 1600x1200. Should also be useable with widescreen displays.

The first picture shows the new version 0.9.2, the second is the older version 0.5. Plz tell me if you dont like the new version and of course why you dont like it :P

The background image is from Franziska Frannerts and you can download it from this location: http://kde-look.org/content/show.php/stOrmgreen?content=35826

The third picture is from the experimental Avio-Sunshine-GDM, that features a lens flare effect. You should use at least a resolution of 1024x768 or it won't look good. I marked it as experimental, but it should be very usable, since it depends on the 0.9.2 version of the default theme.

Howto install it under Gnome (Ubuntu):

1. Download this theme (currently 0.9)
2. Open the "gdmsetup", also called "Login Window Preferences"
3. Open the tab "Local"
4. Use the "Add" Button and select the downloaded file.
5. Make sure you select the "Avio-GDM" in the List.
6. Close dialog and logout to see it.

Howto change the background image

1. Download the current version of this theme (0.9.2).
2. Extract it with the compression tool of your choice.
3. Navigate into the extracted folder and replace the "background.jpg" with the image of your choice.
4. Put it into a ".tar.gz" Archive again and you should have a theme with your own background. (plz don't change the directory structure)

Changelog:

version 0.9.2 released:
- cursor is initialy no longer over a button, which could cause unwanted/unexpected behavior
- fontsize of the username/password field slightly reduced
- license text of GPL added

version 0.9.1 released:
- button prelight style changed
- PAM error message no longer exceedes window area.
- a little bit more transparent

version 0.9 released:
- new more fresh design (hope you like it)
- fixes some bugs (not all buttons correctly visible, userlist to large, ...)

LicenseGPL
(Avio-GDM version 0.9.2)
(Avio-GDM version 0.9.1)
(Avio-GDM version 0.9)
(Avio-GDM version 0.5 (old version))
(Avio-Sunshine-GDM version 0.7 (experimental style))

 Crashes

I have multiple monitor system. Each with 1920x1200 summing upto a resolution of 3840x2400

My workstation crashed after trying to add this theme. The pc again again restarts to resolve the fact which is even worse.

Had a lot of trouble fixing it as I could not connect to gdmsetup after logging in from the terminal and manually starting the x server.

Either fix the bug or remove the comment "shud work for all resolution greater than 640x480" in http://art4linux.org/pages/gnome.html)

Sorry that this theme caused you such big problems, but i think that this is not only my fault.

"Either fix the bug or remove the comment "shud work for all resolution greater than 640x480" in http://art4linux.org/pages/gnome.html)"

- that are not my themes, that are derivates of mine
- in my comment i limited the resolution to 1600x1200
- a theme is a plain XML-File and some images, it does not execute any code
- it looks like, that gdm-greeter or your x-server has a problem with such large images
- i use a 1600x1200 image for the background and it is resized by the greeter to fit the resolution

"I dont know why this happen to my theme and its derivations. It must be some sort of bug in the greeter."

I love this theme, thanks a lot. Incidentally, when I use the switch user feature in Gnome and it returns to GDM, the buttons in the greeter are pushed down a bit so one of them seems to exceed the area allotted for it. Also, if you have too many users, when you select the last user, the rectangular highlight overlaps the bottom curve.

Thanks again :)

I really like your work !
However I find the old version better as the new one. (because of the transparency)

Thank you,
but you mean the transparent (milky white) border, or that the whole window is a bit transparent?

Any chance you can create a widescreen version of this?

It looks really nice.

Should be no big deal, maybe i will create a widescreen version in some days, if i have a little free time.

One other possibitlity is just to change the backgroundimage. All you need to do is to unpack the archive and to replace the background.png with a widescreen image. After that you packed it again, you have a version with your own background.
