Description:

Network manager for kde.

Allows you to configure different network profiles using all encryptions wpa_supplicant provides (wep, wpa, wpa2 etc) for wireless networks.
Since version 0.4.5 kwlan can connect to unencrypted networks if wpa_supplicant is not available.

Kwlan can also store profiles for wired networks.

Dialup networks can be edited and connected to as well.

Systray icons show connection statistics per interface (can be disabled).

Attention: Since 0.6.0, Kwlan uses kdesu to do administrative tasks so you must be able to run dhclient, ifconfig, wpa_supplicant (see help file)!
New kubuntu binery fixes dependency problems.

Changelog:

Version 0.6.3:
-------------
- Fixed Bug: Setting to show New Interface Wizard was not stored correctly.
- Fixed Bug: Adding new network from Scanning didn't fill in encryption settings automatically
- Fixed Bug: WPA enabled networks were shown as new if wpa_supplicant was not started
- Fixed Bug: access to pppd was not tested correctly
- Access Dialup networks from context menu of interface systray icon.

Version 0.6.2
-------------
- Added option for ad-hoc networks
- Added option to show commands in kdesu password requests
- Shows signal strength in context menu
- Shows unconfigured networks in context menu to automatically add the scanned networks
- rewritten scanning code independent of wpa_supplicant

bash-3.00# make -f Makefile.cvs
This Makefile is only for the CVS repository
This will be deleted before making the distribution

*** YOU'RE USING autoconf (GNU Autoconf) 2.60.
*** KDE requires autoconf 2.52, 2.53 or 2.54

Could you make somethingwith this. I've tried make -f Makefile.cvs because configure won't work with automake-1.9

Hi,

this will be fixed in 0.5.3 which I will publish this week (I'll upgrade to automake 1.9).

You could try to copy /usr/share/apps/kapptemplate/admin/* into the admin directory of kwlan (and make them executable) in the meantime.

Regards,

Tom.

KWlan does not finds my wireless interface. When I click Scan, it does not react.
My interface is named "wireless", it is found by iwlist.

wireless Scan completed :

Hi,

this will hopefully be fixed in 0.5.3. It happens usually if ifconfig isn't in the user's path (KWlan needs it to detect the interfaces).

In the meantime, you could try to add /sbin to your path to allow KWlan to run as normal user.

Regards,

Tom.

Hi,

it is a bug.

Please replace in line 21 scriptAfterConnect(FALSE),
with
scriptAfterConnectRoot(FALSE),

I will provide a fixed version soon.

 Gentoo ebuild...

Here is ebuild for Gentoo users:
https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=144772

BTW, I don't like so much icons in systray provided by one progam. Could you add some option to select which interface will be displayed in systray?

It is already configurable. Right click on the KWlan main icon and select "Monitor interfaces". There you can select which interfaces to show.

It would be quite good if you could integrate the main icon functionality into the interface icons to reduce clutter in the systray.
If no interfaces are found, then show the main icon only. When interfaces ARE found, having a main icon looks pointless.
Would that be hard? After a quick look in the source code, it doesn't look like that's the case...

 dhcpcd options?

by gmichels on: Sep 11 2006

Score 50%

Great app!

I have a feature request, though: I'd like to set specific dhcpcd options, any ideas on how to accomplish this? What I need most is set the route metric, so when I have both wired and wireless interfaces up on the same subnet, the traffic goes thru the wired one.

Thanks!

Hi,

currently, I have no solution for this. I have no influence on dhcp options. Maybe you can find something in /etc/dhcp3/dhclient.conf.

I plan to implement adding routes in kwlan, but then you would need static ip addressing.

Anyway, I think about it and maybe I can find a way in a future version.

 Warning

I get this warnings when I execute the program from console:

kdecore (KAction): WARNING: KAction::insertKAccel( kaccel = 0x8182878 ): KAccel object already contains an action name "file_quit"

Any idea?
I have compiled Kwlan 0.5.3 on my own home directory, without any problem... If it's useful, I have KDE 3.5.4 on 2.6.16 Kernel (SUSE 10.1).

Thanks a lot.
Bye!

Hi,

I know about this warning, couldn't find a way around it yet.

However, you can savely ignore it...
