Description:

Hi all,
I wonder what are you trying to do? A second Windows' GUI the same as we have in Vista? Many projects in 'Kde4 Brainstorm' are certainly based on Microsoft's newests GUI. Why do not you make something new? Something that will impress everyone, something that will show that Linux is better than Windows even if we talk about GUI...
Please remember that Microsoft is the owner of it's GUI and we should not to copy it. It is not on GPL licence.
The Windows' GUI is quite nice. That is true. But please believe me... We can do it better.
Do not try to be like a Microsoft's graphic. Try to be better.

I really don't see what your talking about?

Sure Windows, KDE, Gnome, MacOSX all have Desktop Icons, and all have taskbars, and all have something along the line of a mainmenu. You really can't get around that.

If you think you can make a better mouse trap, then tell us, instead of whining.

Anyways if you bothered to read this area, you would notice alot of new ideas. Also it's only the defualt look that looks anything like windows, and there's a reason for that.

If you tryed you can make KDE look like anything, and I think that's the goal. With fully skinable bars, panels, menus, and everything else you can make KDE 4 into almost what ever you want it to be.

Take my desktop, it's looks like a hybrid between MacOSX, Window's Vista, and something else. When 4 comes out I hope to make something completely diffrent, but haven't been able to yet becuase of the lack of skinable panels.

If you want to bitch at a desktop for stealing ideas go talk to Bill Gates.

Can I change point of view?
Would you stop MS copying kde features?

Examples:
1) kdesu is there from ages. copied in Vista.

2) go at http://blogs.msdn.com/conblog/archive/2006/03/14/550826.aspx
and tell me if "Scalable Live Icons" is
something you experimeted already.
I'm using ctrl+wheel in konqueror window
from some time.....

 Replace the desktop.

You can't just critic like that. Give ideas, propose new concepts. Just try to think about something that would effectively replace the desktop. You'll see how hard it is. That's what I've been trying to do for months, and haven't succeed yet.

To me it looks more like windows is taking things from KDE. (i.e the crystal theme which is older)

Certainly we will have to introduce something brandnew and never seen. Why do you think we are making this brainstorm?! Community is the only way of social development so we've created a portal to discuss all new features and improvements just as they arise! Maybe you could contribute instead of criticize?!

I think that critic is also needed. we have to say what we like and what we dislike.

I agree. IMHO KDE4 brainstorming also includes descriptions of the things one does not like. But IMHO the most important thing is that the KDE look and feel stays at least that configurable as it is now. I'm really in fear of a KDE 4 which is shiny like Vista but where you cannot make every toolbar and other elements as big as you want or need anymore and where you are forced to use a certain look (2-pane-kmenu e.g.) because of a new and more stiff structure.

Want excellent hardware recognition and an easy way to install Debian Sid? Get KANOTIX!

Absolutly, but you're not criticing, you're whining. Criticism tends to be more constructive, and help whoever received that critic.I see it more as an advice. However, you didn't provided us with constructive material, you whinned.

Thanks
