Description:

Serenity is a soft and quiet theme to ease your mind, with a lot of options to make the Serenity yours.

All I wanted to do was to remove as many lines as possible from the widgets in order to avoid the "recursive frames effect" in Konqueror. I did just a little more. ;-) And I also did my best to support dark colorschemes.

To install from sources, see INSTALL file in the archive.

- Bugfix for KDM.

1.7:
- Configuration dialogs re-designed to be lighter i.e. faster to render.
- All the colorschemes I ever made for Serenity (25) are now included.

1.7 Style:
- The character used in the password entry boxes in now a big dot instead of the asterisk.
- Scrollbars and sliders do not sink under a mouse click any more.
- Tabbar improved with new gradients and new colors. Four styles are now available for both the active and inactive tabs.
- Tabs are a bit less busy. They now only change of color under the mouse.
- Menubar slightly changed with new gradients and new colors. Six styles are now available.
- Gradient menubars are now a bit less busy too.
- Textboxes (which include also editable comboboxes and spinwidgets) can now be highlighted when they have the focus. (That's more visible than only the blinking cursor.)
- The popup sub-menu delay can now be raised up to 1 sec. (That gives you the time to *feel* you have to click to let a sub-menu appear.)
- Serenity now has its own brightness routines so that you can have white buttons. (Still doesn't work perfectly with black buttons.)
- The frames in Kontact are back. (Grumble, grumble...)

1.7 Decoration:
- Partial re-design of the configuration dialog to give you a better control over the colors of the buttons and their symbols. You can even set the power of the eventual color mixes used.
- You can now also set the color of the buttons when pressed.
- The standard highlight color is now available for both the hovered and activated buttons.
- Four titlebar style are now available: No background, solid background (both as previously), solid top and softer edge.
- The windec also got brightness routines similar to the ones of the style so that the buttons all look the same.

Hey, nice to see so much activity on my most favorite style :)
It`s getting better from version to version!

But there is still one little bug (featuere?)
If you open a (main)menu-item and want to close it by clicking it again it doesnt close, only the background of the item changes.

All in all thx A LOT!

I haven't used this autoclose feature because I didn't even know it existed. So, I didn't notice it disappeared. ;-)

I tracked the reason behind Serenity's behavior down to Qt sources. What happens is that Serenity fools Qt in reminding it that it isn't working on Windows so that it stops drawing etched text. But in doing so, Serenity also prevents Qt from autoclosing the menus since it is a Windows-only feature.

Any way, I explored several tracks while I was writing this answer and I think I found a solution: I just need to prevent Qt from drawing any text... and let Serenity do all the job, of course! (My control obsession will be finally satisfied.) ;-)

Just like baghira?
There could be an option in the style-configure-dialog.

Such a nice serenity-gradiented kicker-bg would be a really great eye-candy :)

Right now, without thinking hard about it, I don't think it's possible. Serenity's gradients can't be cut into pieces patched together to fill an area.

I look closer at what Baghira does and I saw Qt and/or KDE slaughtering the stripes. The Kicker panels are never drawn in one single piece but tiny bit by tiny tiny and a lot of these tiny bits are misaligned. Never more than one pixel here or there but the result isn't optimal --to say the least. Serenity won't do any better. It will actually do worst. For each partial redraw Serenity would need to re-calculate the gradient for the whole panel. You would have to expect a massive slow-down at each redraw.

The only realistic solution for the moment is a pixmap background. You just need to figure out how to force Serenity to draw a button big enough to cover the whole Kicker panel and with the right colors. ;-) (That's not so hard.)

What? another version..? Cool, am using B II win. decoration too, great! And new colors looks super as well. I moved from gnome in favor of this style some time ago. Serenity style, I love u, u're my babe...

Ah, I do understand now, actually I tried your decoration. It fit to window better, still I found it to be a bit strange, sorry ;) 1; it have too much of height, 2 gradient patern inside with that plastic like border arround is not well done. Actually, u could rather "copy" my B II look from the screenshot even with colors and buttons, and make it better aligned with window(as your deco do). Gradient would go from custom color(top) to window color(bottom), and bottom color would be already aligned with window color so there would be no line between. It is good that there are quite lot of options in your deco already, just that big heigh and thick borders and gradient from letf>right instead od top>bottom>align_color_with_win(or win_menu) is prob. for me. Good work anyway, your style rulez and u had kicked ass to all that others.Am happy u check my screenshots, in fact, u're elite on your own and am just a passive user.

1. It's not that height. If you reduce the titlebar height to the minimum (18), it's 4 pixels taller than B2. It's not a compact titlebar but it isn't that huge either.

2. Gradients inside the titlebar are from top left to bottom right, like the regular buttons within the window. I did it on purpose and I won't change it... but you can change this with the titlebar style combobox. Try one of the menubar styles if the gradient troubles you that much. As for the line around the window --and the titlebar-- that's one of those I can't remove. It enables you to distinguish the windows which would otherwise melt the one into the other.

However, your criticism gave me some ideas for new titlebar looks. Wait and see... the next version. ;-)

(1) Everything is center aligned, except ... the tabs?

(2) I really like the flat look. The lines having the gradient are great. But: It looks inconsistent: If horizontal lines have a color gradient, why rectangles don't have?

(3) Window decoration: The huge borderline does not fit the style at all. It looks like the one of Comix style and even here the windec looks somehow displaced. What if you adapt the thin line concept with gradients?

(1) Good point. I don't know why. I'll add an option for this in the next version.

(2) Well, the choice of colors isn't optimal --to say the least. My current version draw the separators as lines of which the tips melt into the background. That's a little better this way. I also tried solid lines but I didn't like it that much. Probably a switch would satisfy everybody. I haven't decided yet.

(3) The external frame of the windows is 2-pixel thick to have a good separation in between the windows and to be different from the panel frames. I'll try a thin line but I won't add more gradients, that's sure. Watch my blog, I'll do some experiments these week-end and publish images of the result.

Hei, great work ! I'm liking it a lot.
There are a few drawbacks that stops me to make of this my default style:

- when I click on a menu item (file, edit, view...) to open it, then I can't CLOSE it by clicking on it again. It's tricky to have to press elsewhere to get rid of the menu.

- The menu background color is the button's one. Shouldn't be better if it uses the window background color instead ?

- The active tab color: is there a way to change its color ? I'd like to have it of the same color as standard background (the same used for tabs content) and with no line to separate the tab from its contents. I'll try to make a sort of mockup ^^

On my current version the menu autoclose feature works (again). Just wait and see.

As for the menu background color, every style is using the button color because there are some hardcoded colors in Kicker's sources. It's possible to change this menu background color but a problem of mismatching colors (button text on window background) may arise. I'll see what I can do --and add an entry on my list of KDE patches.

The active tabs have the color they have because within Serenity everything that is selected uses the highlight color one way or another. Because of your remark, I made some tests and added the possibility to select amongst different looks for the active tabs, including a totally flat look.

Of course, there is a new version on its way. I'm fixing the last things that need to be, implementing what hasn't already been, and introducing a few new things. I'm trying to make a rock-solid version 1.0 to be able to slow down on the updates. I'd like to have some time to draw a Serenity icon theme, especially the action icons... or to do something else.
