Description:

Serenity is a soft and quiet theme to ease your mind, with a lot of options to make the Serenity yours.

All I wanted to do was to remove as many lines as possible from the widgets in order to avoid the "recursive frames effect" in Konqueror. I did just a little more. ;-) And I also did my best to support dark colorschemes.

To install from sources, see INSTALL file in the archive.

Changelog:

RPM packages updated.

1.7.1:
- Bugfix for KDM.

1.7:
- Configuration dialogs re-designed to be lighter i.e. faster to render.
- All the colorschemes I ever made for Serenity (25) are now included.

1.7 Style:
- The character used in the password entry boxes in now a big dot instead of the asterisk.
- Scrollbars and sliders do not sink under a mouse click any more.
- Tabbar improved with new gradients and new colors. Four styles are now available for both the active and inactive tabs.
- Tabs are a bit less busy. They now only change of color under the mouse.
- Menubar slightly changed with new gradients and new colors. Six styles are now available.
- Gradient menubars are now a bit less busy too.
- Textboxes (which include also editable comboboxes and spinwidgets) can now be highlighted when they have the focus. (That's more visible than only the blinking cursor.)
- The popup sub-menu delay can now be raised up to 1 sec. (That gives you the time to *feel* you have to click to let a sub-menu appear.)
- Serenity now has its own brightness routines so that you can have white buttons. (Still doesn't work perfectly with black buttons.)
- The frames in Kontact are back. (Grumble, grumble...)

1.7 Decoration:
- Partial re-design of the configuration dialog to give you a better control over the colors of the buttons and their symbols. You can even set the power of the eventual color mixes used.
- You can now also set the color of the buttons when pressed.
- The standard highlight color is now available for both the hovered and activated buttons.
- Four titlebar style are now available: No background, solid background (both as previously), solid top and softer edge.
- The windec also got brightness routines similar to the ones of the style so that the buttons all look the same.

 Bug!

A little bug escaped my vigilance. Please, anybody who downloaded version 0.3 of the style, get the new one.

It won't crash but it's ugly, so...

 ebuilds updated

by ianegg on: Mar 20 2006

The decoration ebuild just needs renaming to match the version number, but the style one needs a minor hack due to the .1 not being appended to the workdir, so I've hosted it again http://ianegg.homeip.net/~ian/serenity-style-0.3.1.ebuild

I think the colums headers looked slightly better before as they matched the colour scheme whereas they appear grey now and stand out more - is the colour changeable or is it determined by the style?

I trust you for the new ebuild. I didn't think it was necessary since I didn't actually change the version number anywhere except here on KDE-Look. I will update my package as soon as KGet will get it.

And the column headers aren't grey. They are a mix of the base (the background color of an edit line for ex.) and the foreground. So, their colors depend on the palette where these colors are usually respectively white and black... hence the grey. ;-) Any way, they match better the color of the listviews which usually have a white (base) background.

Excellent, I see what you've done; my problem lays with my colour scheme.

I've had similar problems with ebuilds not liking minor changes in version- there's probably a more graceful way round it that I don't know.

Another suggestion I have is to remove the border when a window is maximised, so the content comes up to the edge.

I've also notied a strange but that's hard to explain. In Konqueror, sometimes when I move the cursor over the toolbars, the icons toggle to the pressed position. It only seems to happen in Konqueror, and usually when I've just moved the cursor over a scrollbar or a displayed icon. I can make some screenshots and possibly a video if this doesn't make sense.

Don't worry too much about the ebuilds, a new version is in the pipe with a "real" new version number.

Removing the border of the maximized window is possible but too much trouble for just a few pixels and I don't think it would look so good. Since a nice look matters more than anything for me, don't hold your breath for this feature. ;-)

And yes, you can send me a picture of a bug if words aren't enough. I haven't encountered any bug on Konqueror's toolbars --except the one due to a (stoopid) KDE hardcoded color-- but I can't test everything in every situation or I wouldn't release anything ever.

If you decide to send a video, don't hesitate to trim/reduce/downsample it. A full screen video in 1600x1200 tends to become really heavy very soon. :-D

I'd rather prefer you use KSnapshot. I know you can capture anything with it, including a mouseover effect or a pressed button. That should fit to every situation.

 little bug

Hi, I LOVE this theme!
It made me leave Comix, that I used for a really long time :)

But I found one little bug.
There are no Images drawn on e.g. add Tab/delete Tab in Konqui, and the move up/down/... in the "Edit Toolbar" dialog, Only "Default-Images" are drawn. This is where I found it.
Screenies:
http://www.alpine-art.de/Bilder/Screenshots/serenity-button-bug1.png
http://www.alpine-art.de/Bilder/Screenshots/serenity-button-bug2.png
It does not depend on the Icon-set.
Hope I could help you.

KEEP UP THIS NICE WORK!!!11!!

Greez

Franz

Oops, I see, on your Screenies it seems to be fine...
What could it be?

I use the gentoo-ebuild v0.3. (Shouldnt be the Problem)
kde-3.5.1, on an AMD64.

Thx, Franz

Interesting bug! I looked in the source and all I can say is that it can't be a bug within Serenity. Before to decide to draw an arrow or an icon on a toolbutton, Serenity asks explicitely to Qt what to draw. If an arrow is drawn, that's because Qt says so.

But I can re-arrange the tests so that Serenity tests first is there is an icon to draw. According to the screenshots, it looks like the buttons are the right ones so maybe it will fix that bug.

I just sent you a patched source. Replace, build, test and keep me informed.

Hi,
I can confirm this too.
Check what you do especially when drawing QToolButton NOT with a pixmap, but s.th. like this:
f_push_button = new QToolButton( DownArrow, this, name + QString( "_date_picker" ) );
Hu? The patch I gave to Franz is now part of the source. The problem should be solved.

Do you still have problems with the last version?
