Description:

This is a graphical user interface of famous Alien which makes it possible to transform packages (See screenshot). You must be logged in root to be able to use it Screenshot: Current version , more "user friendly" with folder selector and "install" button and you are automatically logged as root with the launching of the program , it is enough to type your code (see second screenshot...)

ENJOY IT!

Thibault Baldetti

PS:Special thanks to Eric Laffoon for some modifications...

Changelog:

Tuesday 2006/2/28 10h24 : First release 0.1, that convert only RPM and DEB packages Tuesday 2006/2/28 20h30 : Second release 0.2 Thursday March 3rd 2006: Third release 0.3 March 4th 2006: Fourth release 0.4

Try version 0.4. One of the modifications I sent was to test if you were root and offer to run it as root using kdesu. Of course you can set it up on a menu or icon to use kdesu, but if you don't it will offer anyway.

I just figured I'd ask. Because when you said it needed to be run as root my first reaction was.... You should never be logged in to X as root.

To my mind it's better to use fakeroot instead of root login or kdesu.

Then open it in the Kommander editor and change your copy to your liking. It's completely user editable. That's what sets Kommander apps apart.

The versions 0.1-0.3 work well,
but the version 0.4 cannot find the alien application on Debian.

The people who want to use this kind of applications have no idea how to install anything.I am (in some measure) one of them.

Please provide an "Install" file, or a "Readme" file explaining how to install the program. This information should be provided before the "how to use the program" information.

Not everybody knows all the good things you know. Please share with us --the commoners -- the usefully informations.

When I need alien, I use the Terminal. But I am a "lazy" kind of guy and if is some GUI available for some command I don't hesitate to use it. ...And, in conclusion, "there are more like me where I come from".
