Description:

i think it would be most comfortable if kde had a windoze-like bug reporting system.
currently i find reporting a bug quite a boring thing to do and usually just give it up.
well, i hope this is not kde developers want us to...

on systems like sourcemage it should be also possible to report the bug automatically to the developer, even if it's not a kde application.

i should think, such an option would be perhaps the most useful innovation of kde 3.5, along with new bugs :/

There's one problem with that, and the konqueror dialog you're showing can illustrate this.

Being a style developer myself, it's quite easy to get applications to crash. Other pieces of software can crash konqueror, by reporting the bugs to the developer (of konqueror), you would only be redirecting the real problem to somebody that does not have the time to address them.

hmm, some 95% times konqueror or kicker crashes on my computer, it says it's becuase of an error in itself.
i hoped that if the whole thing was automated people would report bugs sooo much more often but all reported bugs being in the same format, they could be compared automatically. in other words, the developers would automatically get a big bug database made up of lots of reports automatically grouped into just a few main models. is what i said clear, or should i try to explain it better?

I think it would be a good idea to add a "comment box (optional)" to let the user add anything s/he thinks it's important (p.e. "I was opening pysol when konqueror crashed").

It is clear, but developers don't have time to sift through bug reports finding the ones that are applicable to them, or that they can handle.

It's a good idea, don't get me wrong, it just needs some refining. Just keep in mind that for one, 95% is not an accurate estimate, and two, 100% of the crashes you see don't have to occur within the application's code.

i'm sure you are right, after all it's you who is a developer. but i didn't say that 95% crashes happen in the code itself; i said that in 95% cases it says it crashed because of an error in itself. if konqueror's estimate why it crashed is not accurate enough, well i'm afraid i just can't know when it's right and when it's not.
such automatic reports could be, i believe, very well squeezed into some regular format, so as to allow automatic preprocessing. do you think that what people now report - not necessarily knowing much about programming - is of much better quality? i'm just asking, i can't judge it myself.
anyway, i'd like to know very much what sort of refining you mean?

Let's go further, certain issues, ones that happen often and are reported often can be tracked by a global database. If you are conected to the internet you can benotified about status of this bug (resolved|ideas|etc) and that can be showed as a additional button.

This is necessary, if even it were to include an integrated quick search tool in there to help the user ensure that (s)he isn't submitting a duplicate (perhaps allowing to add comment feedback instead for those threads), etc.

Another idea is to allow automated quick note taking and saving the crash log to submit later (and perhaps periodic reminder of pending bug submissions), because often the user is too busy doing something after a crash (because it has interrupted the user's work). It takes a lot to save the log, fire up a web browser, filling out forms and file a bug report, searching for dupes etc, immediately after a crash, when the user is often too frustrated, trying to find a way to recover whatever work was lost.
