This idea is based on "Dialogwindow Improvement" by bushwakko. I had to open a new entry, because it's not possible to add screenshots to comments.
I just wonder if dialog boxes have to be an extra window at all?! There's often trouble with dialog boxes opening in the background or accidently being send to the background by the user. bushwakko is right, dialog boxes need no titlebar with minimize, maximize and close button. This is only confusing.
I remember I read about KDE4 having several layers. So the idea is, that every window and subwindow (tab) has it's own dialog layer. When a user action is required, the dialog box (not window) is opened in the dialog layer of this window (subwindow). The content-layer is set to graycolor mode and darkened, to not distract from the dialog box. (see screenshot)
This way, the dialog box sticks with the window and can't be lost in the background by accident.
