Description:

I have some ideas about the dialogwindows in kde apps.

I would like to remove everything from the titlebar of a dialogwindow. like minimize, maximize, close and the icon with the menu.

Having that in a dialogwindow makes no sense, the window is there to get a user response. Having an option that is closing the window is just weird. The window is usually yes/no or ok,cancel, but it doesn\\\\\\\'t have to be. What does the X mean if the question is Red/Blue or something like that. It should also be a little transparent, to illustrate it\\\\\\\'s not an application in its own, but just something that\\\\\\\'s apart of something.

It could also be solved the OSX way, with no titlebar at all, where it just slides out from under the parentapps\\\\\\\' titlebar. This is very cute!

I don\\\\\\\'t know if the current window shows up in the taskbar, but if it does, that\\\\\\\'s just redundant too.

 Dangerous Dialog

I think that if those kinds of dialog windows don't have a close button then there should be a safety net in KDE in case someone decides to make an evil dialog box that has no "cancel" button, and any button you press does something mean to your computer. KDE should analyze the request for the dialog window first, and if there is no standard "cancel" button that when pressed cancels the request and does no operation, one should be added. Maybe there should be a specifically defined Cancel widget that must be added to all KDE windows of that type? Otherwise KDE can add one to the window, or show the "Close" button which does the same thing.

Or something along those lines. I'm not a KDE programmer, so feel free to build apon and/or take apart.

Also I like the idea of having an option to enable/disable the close and minimise buttons, should the user want to keep them.

[Nerf. That's all I have to say.]

Full ACK! BTW: I often "confirm" dialog boxes with the x.

Want excellent hardware recognition and an easy way to install Debian Sid? Get KANOTIX!

As it is, I think the X button communicates a "cancel". The way dialog boxes work is they are created from a program that expects a return value of either "true" or "false". "OK" is the return value "true", and anything else like "cancel" or "program terminated" communicates a "false".

It's open source, and a free community. Let's say for a moment that dialog boxes don't have X buttons anymore. If some idiot programmer in the open source community actually wastes his/her time on making a dialog box that doesn't have a cancel button and there's no apparent way to close it, whoopie doo. Run XKILL, shoot the dialogue box in the face to make it go away, and then kindly notify the community of the offending app. The bug will be either fixed or the program will never be trusted and thus never used by anyone. Besides, why was such an app never fixed during the testing phase? If you install untested bleeding-edge software then you are basically just inviting such an annoyance to come in and don't really have any right to complain, let alone make a safety-net.

It's an open community. The only one to blame for faulty code is infact the community itself.
