Description:

gTVTimer is an easy to use videorecorder and frontend to MEncoder and MPlayer. You can use it to schedule recordings from your analog TV card, watch TV and preview your recorded videos.

gTVTimer now has an integrated DVD authoring dialog (based on dvdauthor). That way you can create your own DVDs with or without menus.

There is still a lot to add/improve. Feel free to send bug reports and suggestions.

FEATURES:
* supported video codecs: DivX, MJPEG, MPEG2, XviD
* supported audio codecs: MP2 (lavc, toolame), MP3 (lavc, lame)
* supported filters: crop, resize, deinterlace, denoise
* import channel list from xawtv 3.x files or scan for TV channels with scantv
* simple TV application
* integrated DVD authoring dialog
* integrated MPEG2 remultiplexing dialog
* integrated MPEG file info dialog
* scheduled shutdown via KDM or '/sbin/shutdown'
* resume aborted recordings
* preview of recorded videos
* translations: English, German

REQUIRED:
Gambas 1.0.x (tested with versions 1.0.12 to 1.0.16)
QT >=3.2
aumix
MPlayer/MEncoder
scantv (optional)

REMULTIPLEXING (optional):
replex
mpgtx
avidemux2

DVD AUTHORING (optional):
ffmpeg
mjpegtools >= 1.8.0
dvdauthor
ImageMagick
Xine (DVD preview)

INSTALLATION:
Version 0.4: Because the preferences and timer-list format has changed it is best to export your channel list and then delete the folder ~/.gtvtimer and reconfigure gTVTimer!

Extract the archive and open the resulting gTVTimer folder in gambas. You can now start the program from here or create an executable which can be started from the command line.

First you have to select a folder in which your videos will be saved (under 'Preferences/Other').
The second thing to do is to create a list of TV channels through 'Preferences/TV' (you can import from xawtv 3.x files or exported files created by gTVTimer or you can scan for TV channels).
Before recording can start you have to create one or more profiles under 'Preferences'. These profiles reflect your TV, Video, Filter, Audio, Paths and Other settings. So that every recording can use a different combination of settings.

Because DVB recording works totally different from analog TV recording it is unlikely that gTVTimer will ever support this.
Did you try Klear? From what I see this seems to be exactly what you are looking for.

As Kalva supports DVB I would suppose this tool will also support it. Look at the manpage of MEncoder / MPlayer for the URL dvb

 driver issue

It would be handy to support a few more card. Mine is a BT878 and does not work with the 848 driver.

I do have tvtime and it's driver but I have no idea if it's even vaguely compatible.

I have to say I'm no expert in this: But v4l (v4l2) should support the BT878 chip. So gTVTimer should work with the v4l driver selected (if the v4l driver is configured the right way).

Just to clarify this: The TV driver selection in gTVTimer is bound to the limitations of drivers supported by MPlayer.

 Won'tcompile

Hi,

I installed Gambas from YaST (in SUSE 10), it installed version 1.9.17.

And gTVTimer won't compile in that. Could you make an RPM or an executable?

First of all, the gambas version needed to run gTVTimer is gambas 1.0.x (latest is gambas 1.0.16). The gambas version 1.9.x (a.k.a. gambas2) uses a different syntax and is in beta state and therefore subject to changes.

If you are not familiar with installing gambas from source than take a look at http://gambas.sf.net under Resources/Download. Here you will find a link to precompiled SuSE packages.

After installing gambas from the given source gTVTimer should run without problems.

I hope I could help you. Please give a short note.
