Description:

This is the final mockup for a new look and feel for Konqueror in KDE4.

Include 4 interesting features like a linkeable adress bar and a filter for files.

Here is the list of features:

- Linkeable adress bar

- Undo close tab Button (for recover tabs accidentally closed)

- Filter by type

- A Metadata editor and File properties viewer




Changelog:

Version 1.1 lite

- Menu bar above toolbar now

- Added a Filter by type button below toolbar instead of the File filter in the status bar.

- I remove the horizontal file properties view

- The File properties view appear when switch between the Metadata editor

- I remove the File Filter with filtering options (this feature will be in Tenor)

i like the general idea, but there are 2 things i think can be usefull:

1. the idea about actions on icons: when doing a mouse-over, the big big icons you have could show buttons, like "info" "play" etcetera.

2. you don't have a actions/preview/whatever place. buttons-on-icons and a preview-on-mouse-over, and the metadata could fill that up. but if you don't put the buttons-on-icons you really need a preview/actions side/bottom bar...

I'll analyze your proposal. I agree with all parts that I haven't analyzed.

No Location, Go, Bookmarks, Tools, Settings, Window menus
How will the user perform the actions that are in these menus currently?

File menu
What will be placed in it?

Edit and View menus swapped
What do you achieve by this?

Menu bar on titlebar
This should be optional, but when enabled, should be systemwide, not Konqueror-specific.

Metadata editor
If it's closed, how does the user get it back?
Why is it closed by a "Close" link instead of the usual "Close" icon (most often a cross)?
What's the little white triangle in the right for?
The Subject field is useless.
The Title field duplicates the filename functionality. Therefore it should be changed to say Name and should be used for renaming.
The Category field should be renamed to Tags (more intuitive) and should be right under Name, because it's more important than Author.
The whole Metadata editor should be placed horizontally right under the scrollbar, since it'd take less space and it'd be closer to most parts of the filemanager, so the user needs to move his mouse less.

Small Forward button
Why should it be smaller than the Back button?

Convex circle at the right of the Location bar
What's it for?

Sidebar
Why does the scrollbar span all the way under the sidebar handle?

Window decoration, widget style and color scheme
How are yours better than the currently default Plastik?

Oh, what has happened to the kde "lots of features, as they don't look ugly and don't confuse the users" ideology?

And why does it have window vista close buttons?

On the other hand, it looks great, and I really like the tabs...

I realy like the idea of a metadata editor

must be able to treat many files at the same time, and then to broose by tags ( albums but not only with photo )

and the "restore closed tab" is now missing, definitely.
