That would be sweet. Talented coders like Mosfet could help lead the way. I think having REAL transparency hardcoded in XFree86 would make some things easier.

but not only that, i think, the whole "Kicker-panel" should be 'worked over'. i am thinking about some simple things, i really wonder, why noone did already, i can't be too much work.
1. right mouse-click on kicker offers possibility to 'remove' all applet-handles. (i found already a function in panel-property-dialog to make the applet-handles invisible (well in the 3.1beta version) but they still use the space!!!)
2. everybody knows, that kicker-backgrounds-pictures are really great, but, the use of it is not making happy all the time.. the clock has just got a color as background, but the date is transparent (means, it's showing the actual kicker-background,/that should be the correct way!)
then..
3. "Liquid-style" has got a function in the property-dialog, to colorize the 'border' or frame of the kicker-panel, well, that's a good idea if people just use a simple colored (1 color) background for the kicker. but, if using a nice multi-colored background-picture, then painting/drawing the border/frame is really annoying.
(if people don't know what i mean, have a look on these screenshots:
http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=1499

4. the items on the taskbar of the kicker, that is showing the open programs/windows should have their own style, that means, the style should be diffrent from the style of the 'konqueror detailed-view' showing the column-names like "file-name, file-type, file-size, etc.".
if you want an example, just have a look here: http://www.kde-look.org/content/preview.php?file=1499-3.jpg

well, this screenshot shows konqueror without the detailed-view, but, you may find out, that also Kmail (every program using a table-view) is showing that what i mentioned above.

well, thanks.
good night all :)

About the applet handles that use the space....
At around first alpha versions on the CVS head you could find that the applet handles did not take any space. You could put the applets just touching each other when the handle was off!
BUT, I don't really know since _when_, this 'feature' dissapeared. Somebody removed/changed it. Maybe to make the things more stable, maybe who knows why.

... I meant first alpha versions of kde 3 (not 3.1), so the feature was removed before 3.0 itself.

actually i didn't really try out a alpha or beta version of kde3, and didn't install alha or beta1 version from kde3.1, but i am using kde3.1-beta2, and it is really nice, i just wish there will be some general design enhancements like i mentioned above.

 Style?

What style are you using for XP there? WindowBlinds theme of some kind, or StyleXP? Since I occasionally have to use WinXP myself, it'd be nice to get hold of that theme also. So... where can I get it? :)

I am using a Crystal msstyle theme for the taskbar and Mobydock for the dock you see on the bottom. Both of which are free I might add. For the icon replacement I used IconPackager. The crystalized winamp skin is for the winamp remote application. All of the above except for iconpackager can be found at www.neowin.net Enjoy!
