Description:
This is an idea for a more integrated way to handle contacts. It is basically a collection of a few seperate ideas (some of which are not new, I'm sure) illustrated by a screenshot.
1) The contactlist could be integrated into Konqueror. The concept of a contactlist is, after all, not very different from a file list: both are a list of objects with properties, which can be added, modified, removed etc. Contactgroups could be seen as folders. Special users, such as root, could be made hidden in the usual way by putting a dot in front of the name. I don't know if one of the objects of KDE4 will be to have Konqueror be an even more versatile application, but if so this might be an idea. The contaclist could, for example, be made a kioslave (In the screenshot I presented it as such) or be part of the filesystem (e.g. like so: /networking/contacts/).
2) A single contactlist coulde be used for a range of applications: for Kopete, KMail, the login manager and anything you can think of. I read this somewhere (I forgot where, I'm afraid) and I thought this was a very good idea, so I'm basically repeating it here.
In the screenshots you can see the ideas put to work. Obviously some improvements could be made here. For example, it would be nice to be able to see right away which contacts are online.
