Description:

Reinhardt Sketch is an icon set based on the excellent Reinhardt Icon Set by Dan Jensen aka leinir: http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=6153. All real artistic credit must go to him.

Inspiration for the icon set comes from Pencilstyle (http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=31534) and Hanwritten (http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=27955).

Reinhardt Sketch is created from the base SVG version of the Reinhardt set via inkscape (SVG -> PNG) and some custom Gimp Script-Fu. The scripts used to create the effect are included in the tarball.

The windeco in the screenshot is called sketchy and can be found here: http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=34150.

I've added a more modem-friendly package that is split into 10MB parts. They are available at http://www.digitaljunkies.ca/~benj/reinhardt-sketch/

[UPDATE]
I've created a new colour-reduced version, v0.9.3-2, of the icon set where each icon only has 256 colours. The difference isn't particularly noticeable visually, but it has reduced the size of the icon set to 19MB. This new iconset was created using graphicsmagick (a fork of imagemagick) and pngrewrite (similar to pngcrush, but better for palette-based PNGs). A modem-friendly version is available at the address above.

The 50MB original set, v0.9.3-1, will still available for those that prefer the higher-quality icons and have the cycles & space to spare ;)

Yeah 56MB is big. I've pngcrushed all the icons and shaved 4MB off the tarball, but there's not much else I can do other than start dropping icons. Reinhardt includes 1269 icons. To distribute a PNG version I have to include six different icon sizes (16, 22, 32, 48, 64 & 128) for each icon for a total of 7614 files. I could just distribute the SVG set along with the scripts to generate the icons, but believe me, rendering seven thousand icons with the gimp takes way longer than downloading 52MB ;).

As for performance, I haven't noticed a drop in speed compared to the SVG version of Reinhardt, but that's on a reasonably powerful desktop.

Anyway, I hope this helps explain why the tarball is so big!

This icon theme is really excellent,but you must really compress the images!
Its causing kde to slow down and crush here.Its too damn big in a tar.gz...when opened its twice bigger.

why dont you put KIM on your computer and compress this theme?

Well, I did compress the original version using pngcrush. I couldn't squeeze much more out of it without changing the icons... So that's what I did :D Each icon in v0.9.3-2 has only 256 colours, so now the total size of the set is 19MB. Some icons don't look quite as good as in the original set, but that's the tradeoff.
