Description:

This is my first metacity theme, based on a Windows Media Center style (I disovered it thanks to this software for windows xp http://xpero.msfn.org/). I made it for make easy the change from windows to linux...

Now I'm making the panel bar (gtk-2.0) but gnome don't paint well the notification icon's alpha channel when a background image is painted, and I don't know how to change the colors only in the bar... in the pannel bar screenshot the minimized windows text should be in white but is in dark blue...

For install it:

Uncompress in your /home/user-name/.theme folder and then go to SYSTEM -> PREFERENCES -> THEME

Why do people port Windows styles to Unix window managers and DEs? Isn't part of the attraction of Linux or BSD the fact that it isn't Windows?

I think that is much easy for common people change to linux world if you give to theme the minor changes in his computer, if you can do the same workflow in windows but in linux, I think much people use it... (like assistents in open suse)

And, I think that in linux you can customize it in all features and, if you can, why not ?

I think for certain people it's a way to proof that *nix can be just as 'good' (and you may interpret that any way you want) as Windows, even if they were already convinced of that themselfes. And in the case of the Windows MCE theme, I do kind of like the way it looks (although in this port I don't like the tiny buttons, make them bigger!).

That said, I hate the way Vista looks and I can't believe how many people are trying to port all of it to GTK/Metacity :)

The above is ofcourse just my opinion.

My issue is that you don't have to completely ripoff the look of Windows in order for it to be familiar. You don't have to be a genius to use Windows, but I'd imagine that if you're using Gnome, you can tell which titlebar buttons do what without the window borders looking exactly like Windows.

The real answer is this: That is not a theme by Microsoft, it is a custom theme hack made by someone else that looks like Luna but is not.
Why not go bother the guy that ported the Opus3 themes to Metacity? Those were Microsoft Visual Style themes that weren't made by Microsoft.

You (the theme maker) should definatley reconsider the name. I believe this is called "Luna Royale".

I must say, this is a very nice theme port. Good job! =]

Maybe I should port Reluna, or better yet Recurve... ^.^

Happens with everything thats new. When 2000 hit, there where icon themes ready before it RTMed for IconPackager so you could have Windows 2000 icons on 98 and NT.

Its not just Windows however, there is a working port of Clearlooks for Windowsblinds that is getting rave reviews in Windows land. Its just people who think something is nice, want it too :) I am sure people will get pretty sick of Vista when it goes gold...that is when they stop those BSODs, heh :)

This is just the way of people jumping on fads and whats new. Personally I agree with you and dont think Vista is worth copying in the slightest (whats the deal with the close button being bigger than the other two?) but it doesnt bother me much. No one forces anyone to use a theme and if someone wants to spend their time making Linux look like Windows 3.1, then by all means let them ;)

I am using the "gnome font": Bitstream Vera Sans: www.gnome.org/fonts

The only Windows Theme I really like happens to be "Royale". There has been a KDE theme for some time. I use it and like it. I've been (in)patiently waiting for someone to come up with a GNOME theme as well.

My wait is over. :-)
