Description:

This is a GDM theme derived from the applelinux theme and includes a face browser. It uses the serenity desktop from http://www.loveisgravity.com as the background image.

To change between browser logos, edit line 61 of the file serenity.xml and choose one of the variants:
browser_bamboo-debian.alba.png
browser_bamboo-freebsd.alba.png
browser_bamboo-gentoo.alba.png
browser_bamboo-linux.alba.png
browser_bamboo-ubuntu.alba.png

To change the background, edit line 29 and switch between:
serenity_aq.jpg
serenity_au.jpg
serenity_bw.jpg

This theme was designed with and works best with 48x48 face icons.

Changelog:

[Mon, 19 Dec 2005 03:36:56 -0500]
* Uneventful re-update. Changes were lost in "the gnome-look crash of '05"
* Updated screenshots
* Added missing serenity_bw.jpg
* Added plain template file: browser_template.png for your customizing pleasure.
* In the future I'd like to make this theme more easily customizable.

** Sorry for those who liked the version of this theme with the lotus flower icon. It was actually my favorite mod. (Anybody know of a really nice, free lotus flower icon I can use?) That icon came from an awesome iconset called 'bouquet" that I got from www.xicons.com. The license for that set doesnt allow me to redistribute it, so I guess it was really a good thing that I forgot to add it to the original package in the first place, since that would have made this not gpl. **

 Very nice

This is a very nice face-browser theme, something that is unfortunately rather rare.

It looks like some of your screenshots have alternate images that aren't included in the package? Also, is the "already logged in" in the screenshot something in newer gdms?

Thanks for the compliment. Im using gdm-2.8.0.5 from Ubuntu Breezy. Im not sure if it's a custom mod for the "Already logged in" status marker.

My bad about the package, I posted an updated package before the "gnome-look blackout" but I guess it got lost.

Hiya

Very nice indeed. Nicely commented XML file too.
However, without changing anything, and with the login photos provided with ubuntu, the names of the user gets offscreen, and even with only 2 users, you need to scroll down. Maybe it'd be good to make it a bit larger?

Thanks. To make the userlist wider, edit lines 82 and 85 of serenity.xml. Change both values for max-width="280" to max-width="380" for example. That works to make it wider and still fits.

I just launched the login photo capplet and now I see what login pictures you are talking about. Those are really HUUGE! The userlist was designed to work best with 48x48 face icons. I'll see if I can get something working with those.

The default face is 48x48, I wonder what gave the devs the idea to include such large stock icons.

Probably for accessibility reasons, like for people with very bad eyesight.

 User List Glitch

Once I select a username and the password prompt appears, there is no clear/reset button to go back to the username prompt.

So if you want to log in as a suppressed username (e.g.: root), if you click a user first, you can't get back to username prompt to type in root.
