Description:

SOME REQUEST - a lot of you guy's were asking for binaries for their distros,
so please if you could build one and mail it to me i would post them ASAP, 10X:)

Hi there,

this is the deKorator kwin deco,
deKorator is based on the HOWTO: KWin Window Manager Decorations posted in here: http://kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=6332
and done by Brandybuck, 10x david:)
the man that responsible for all the art design is jon clarke AKA ArbitraryReason, and if you don't know him by now all you should do is just look at the highest rated scores of this site:)
the nice thing about deKorator it's that it loads is images from
some user defined directory(something quiet similar to what iceWM is doing ),
thats means that everything is themeable with no time and no programming knowledge is needed.
one thing to note is that if you would like to see the changes instantly when designing the tiles, you need to run "kwin --replace&".

few notes:
when installing the new version, log out and login back, or run "kwin --replace&" to load the new version.
if for some reason some options dont seem to work, remove your old kwindeKoratorrc file and let deKorator produce a new one.

i will update my site with some more documentation, samples, template-themes, and other usefull stuff for the theme makers,
so don't forget to check it out, it will be located in the "goodies" directory.

how to install new theme - there r 3 ways to install new theme I'll name them out,

1 - downlad theme tarball and extract it to $HOME/.kde/share/apps/deKorator/themes

2 - download theme tarball, go to deKorator "themes" tab push the "install new theme" push button, you'll be presented with a dialog box, enter your theme URL or just use the little push button to locate your theme on your file system.

3 - go to kde-look and search for some 0.2 deKorator theme, in the theme post right click on the download link and "copy link address", then just go to deKorator "themes" tab push the "install new theme" button and paste the link onto the address bar, deKorator will download and install it for you.

most importent after any installation type, if you'd like to use the theme you need to press on the "set theme path's" push button.

And PLEASE if you got any comment good or bad, suggestion, feature request, other tiling format idea, please feel free to shout it...

10x to eyal the project is hosted now at www.cheetux.org.il, you could also find there some theme's i've ported from 0.1 to 0.2.

Changelog:

*better masking, for how to use it properly look at the Bushido-Yellow-theme inside the tarball.
*new hue colorizing method, proposed by Azzali Matteo AKA mattepiu.
*if supplied transparent images deKorator will fill it with the style background color, this will allow some "powder" style windec, this idea was proposed by the autor of powder,Remi VillatelAKA Maxilys.
*support for title bar wheel mouse action as introduced in kde 3.5.1, patch supplied by Morten Johansson.
*global themes support, this feature allows rpms and debs builders to build themes packages as proposed by loki, deKorator will look for the global themes at $KDEDIR/share/apps/deKorator/themes.
*much more configureabilty when regarding to active and inactive decos and buttons.
*custom colors for buttons.
*new theme The K-style:Infinity-theme, done by Zoran Karavla, included in the tarball and shown in the screenshots.
* few other options in the config dialog.

for full changelog see file CHANGELOG within the tarball.

 To the Top !

Well ya did it ! number 1, congrats ! I can see this tool has great potential, simply because it allows people who are more artistically oriented to skin windows with ease. That's how products like windows blinds took off, its about time Linux had a equivalent tool, I have always found the Deco's in KDE and other windows managers to be second rate compared to the addons for XP, dare I say it, but I feel that the Linux community has focused on the OS more than the eye candy... until recently. Keep this tool going, take it all the way, I'm sure there is allot more that can be added and improved ! Well done ! AB

after lightyears of "apt-get install" finally i did the configure..i was happy! since when i did make..

aclocal-1.9' is missing on your system. You should only need it if
you modified `acinclude.m4' or `configure.in'. You might want
to install the `Automake' and `Perl' packages. Grab them from
any GNU archive site

damn! i've a kubuntu, please, upload a delicious .deb package!! i wanna taste dekorator flavour..

 Great, but ...

I see great potential in deKorator, but there is still much to improve. How about letting the author decide how the pressed (and hovered) buttons should look like and what effects should be applied? That would be one step more towards ultimate perfection.

I don't know about you but my IceWM for kde doesn't support colorization, or masking. dekorator is already better than icewm. I would love to see it read themes from compressed packages, so you could just have a bunch of tarballs in a specified directory and it would give you a choice of the available themes.

but u gonna loose the option to use different types of frames, buttons and mask...

i was thinking about maybe add some button to set the all theme but i dont think it will become that handy.

that kind of flexability is something i like to keep, but maybe i'll think of a better solution. :)

would it be possible to still have the buttons and such in seperate directories within the tarball, and then inside of the configuration utility you could choose which button, deco, etc...? For example when I download a dekorator theme now I have to extract the 3 directories within the archive and choose them manually. Instead dekorator could pick them up without extracting them and let me choose from the different sets of buttons and such inside kcontrol. I don't know if that is even a possibility, but it would be nice.

well as for me i extract the theme, take the folder that contain the 3 folders and drop it where i store all my themes, now about what u mention there's no way to use the tiles without extracting them...

but here r my thoughts, i was thinking of adding install buttons that extract the theme to allready defined location like ~/kde/share/apps/deKorator/themes
this combined with a combobox that read all the themes inside that folder and represent them this way the user can apply the all theme from the combo or set buttons and such as he wishes.

and one last thing, one have to remember that when u r talking about the long process of setting up new theme, u should compare it to the other alternative of downloading full native deco and run the ./configure dance;)
