Description:

SOME REQUEST - a lot of you guy's were asking for binaries for their distros,
so please if you could build one and mail it to me i would post them ASAP, 10X:)

Hi there,

this is the deKorator kwin deco,
deKorator is based on the HOWTO: KWin Window Manager Decorations posted in here: http://kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=6332
and done by Brandybuck, 10x david:)
the man that responsible for all the art design is jon clarke AKA ArbitraryReason, and if you don't know him by now all you should do is just look at the highest rated scores of this site:)
the nice thing about deKorator it's that it loads is images from
some user defined directory(something quiet similar to what iceWM is doing ),
thats means that everything is themeable with no time and no programming knowledge is needed.
one thing to note is that if you would like to see the changes instantly when designing the tiles, you need to run "kwin --replace&".

few notes:
when installing the new version, log out and login back, or run "kwin --replace&" to load the new version.
if for some reason some options dont seem to work, remove your old kwindeKoratorrc file and let deKorator produce a new one.

i will update my site with some more documentation, samples, template-themes, and other usefull stuff for the theme makers,
so don't forget to check it out, it will be located in the "goodies" directory.

how to install new theme - there r 3 ways to install new theme I'll name them out,

1 - downlad theme tarball and extract it to $HOME/.kde/share/apps/deKorator/themes

2 - download theme tarball, go to deKorator "themes" tab push the "install new theme" push button, you'll be presented with a dialog box, enter your theme URL or just use the little push button to locate your theme on your file system.

3 - go to kde-look and search for some 0.2 deKorator theme, in the theme post right click on the download link and "copy link address", then just go to deKorator "themes" tab push the "install new theme" button and paste the link onto the address bar, deKorator will download and install it for you.

most importent after any installation type, if you'd like to use the theme you need to press on the "set theme path's" push button.

And PLEASE if you got any comment good or bad, suggestion, feature request, other tiling format idea, please feel free to shout it...

10x to eyal the project is hosted now at www.cheetux.org.il, you could also find there some theme's i've ported from 0.1 to 0.2.

Changelog:

*better masking, for how to use it properly look at the Bushido-Yellow-theme inside the tarball.
*new hue colorizing method, proposed by Azzali Matteo AKA mattepiu.
*if supplied transparent images deKorator will fill it with the style background color, this will allow some "powder" style windec, this idea was proposed by the autor of powder,Remi VillatelAKA Maxilys.
*support for title bar wheel mouse action as introduced in kde 3.5.1, patch supplied by Morten Johansson.
*global themes support, this feature allows rpms and debs builders to build themes packages as proposed by loki, deKorator will look for the global themes at $KDEDIR/share/apps/deKorator/themes.
*much more configureabilty when regarding to active and inactive decos and buttons.
*custom colors for buttons.
*new theme The K-style:Infinity-theme, done by Zoran Karavla, included in the tarball and shown in the screenshots.
* few other options in the config dialog.

for full changelog see file CHANGELOG within the tarball.

 test

Score 50%

I can test only for little time, cause
I'm goin in vacation this week.
However, I found that, using
kwin --replace& ,
when I use the hue adjustement (frames
or buttons, would need more testing) I
get an error/warning in the console where
I inkoked kwin:
QImage::convertDepth: Image is a null image
repeated some times. Should be a missing/misworking
"file exists check",IMHO.

no really needs to, it will only slows things up, those warnings comes out when you are using themes that doesn't have all the buttons, you can safely ignore it.

Were my patches integrated into 0.3 ? (feature-wise)
I just wonder whether I have to rewrite the patches or not.

A changelog would be very nice for us packagers out there ;)

Now. This deko works. It rocks man. However, while invoking the make command. The Konsole told me that something is wrong with "qtwheelmouse". And so the make failed. Luckily Guru provides the RPM. :D

yep he's the man:), ammm bet you got some older kde version, wheel mouse event introduced with 3.5, if it's so important i can send you the one without the wheel events, i would update the tarball transparently but a lot of distro's using the orig source to compare with the one they are keeping on their repo's so it'll make problems, any way glad it works:), wonder how the global themes works on suse, maybe loki can comment about it...

I see. It was because of the KDE 3.5. I thought something is wrong with my Suse. Nevermind. Thanks anyways. I would rather use the RPM version. He's the man!!!

Now, I've downloaded 0.3 version, since some themes does't show ok (like "Tiny" theme).
I've intalled it, but it doesn't work. It whows two versions in the deco selector, but both are the same 0.2

 masks

Hi.
If you can, make in another version of deKorator, same number of files in masks dir as in deco dir. So evrey file in deco should have one file for mask.
Why? I tried make a skin: http://granilith.republika.pl/zrzut_ekranu1.png but I have to guess how masks should look... (pink color).
And if this possible, let the names of files be different only in one place: example deco/bottomLeftFrameBg.png and masks/bottomLeftFrameMasc.png
So make this update as quick as it possible. With this update it be quite easier to create a theme then it is now.

And thx for Your work. This is great addition for kde. I think, this program can made for kde more and more skins ;)

Sorry for my Engrish >

Hi:)
ammm it's kind of a problem cause it would really slows things up, but i don't really understand what do you mean by have to guess, from what i can see in the screenshots there shouldn't be any problem of making those masks though a little bit of gimping skills would be quiet helpfull in this situations.

Yes It can be made. But there is another problem.
When I have some buttons, and someone don't have them, theme will not work. So there should be different mask for buttons.
And another problem with backgrounds. When I add 4rd button on right corner, buckground not appears... so there should be one image for one button. But I understood your words, it's slow down.
I hope you and others find some way, to wrote a good code that will not slow down so much.
If this slow down, because there are so many files, buttons can be in one file (for normal, hover, press). There can be a code to read a file from that.
But I don't know how to wrote that, because i'm not a coder... Unfortunately I can make only an advices.

Sorry for my English.

About one image for one button.
This is about background for buttons, buttons are separated.
So background can be made for example 6 buttons as one image (as many can be added in kde by user who choosed them), but dekorator can add background only there, were buttons are. Or, background is made for one button, but dekorator duplicate it for other buttons. (Now, I see, that dekorator get backgrounds and put buttons so when background is too short, it not looks so good). I prefer 1st point, so every button could have different background.

Is this a good idea?

sorry don't really understand what are you talking about , are you talking about the buttons bg left and right, well if so think of them as part of the deco not the button, use which ever graphic you want to on the button, left and right buttons bg are part of the deco, anyway a screenshot would be helpfull..

about the mask again it's a problem because of the dynamic nature of kde buttons can be added removed moved from side to side it's not like windows which allways have one button at the left side and three on the right one, any way what would you do in this kind of mask:
http://www.cheetux.org.il/~motyr/snapshot57.png
how would you tile it on all over the button, it's not simetric as you can see, masks should be static...

Sorry, but I try my best to say what I have in my mind.

1st, I thought dekorator slows down, because it haves to many files to read. It's stupid, I know.
But now, when I thought more about this, I think that dekorator slows down, because it haves to many mathematical tasks to solve to create a window. And it make them all the time.

This was a solution how I see - what program do.
Because I don't know, how dekorator works, I have my ideas how to wrote program to work better. But I'm not a programmer, so this ideas could be or are stupid.

I try wrote it to your email.

 Version 0.3

First, great work! I really like deKorator, when I have tme I would like to try to make some themes. ^^
There is a small thing in 0.3's GUI I think could be inproved. Under "Colors" you can enable "Colrize frames" and "Colorize buttons". Under "Buttons", you can set custom button colors. However, you have to enable the Colrize frames" and "Colorize buttons", which IMHO could be a little bit confusing.
