Description:

SOME REQUEST - a lot of you guy's were asking for binaries for their distros,
so please if you could build one and mail it to me i would post them ASAP, 10X:)

Hi there,

this is the deKorator kwin deco,
deKorator is based on the HOWTO: KWin Window Manager Decorations posted in here: http://kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=6332
and done by Brandybuck, 10x david:)
the man that responsible for all the art design is jon clarke AKA ArbitraryReason, and if you don't know him by now all you should do is just look at the highest rated scores of this site:)
the nice thing about deKorator it's that it loads is images from
some user defined directory(something quiet similar to what iceWM is doing ),
thats means that everything is themeable with no time and no programming knowledge is needed.
one thing to note is that if you would like to see the changes instantly when designing the tiles, you need to run "kwin --replace&".

few notes:
when installing the new version, log out and login back, or run "kwin --replace&" to load the new version.
if for some reason some options dont seem to work, remove your old kwindeKoratorrc file and let deKorator produce a new one.

i will update my site with some more documentation, samples, template-themes, and other usefull stuff for the theme makers,
so don't forget to check it out, it will be located in the "goodies" directory.

how to install new theme - there r 3 ways to install new theme I'll name them out,

1 - downlad theme tarball and extract it to $HOME/.kde/share/apps/deKorator/themes

2 - download theme tarball, go to deKorator "themes" tab push the "install new theme" push button, you'll be presented with a dialog box, enter your theme URL or just use the little push button to locate your theme on your file system.

3 - go to kde-look and search for some 0.2 deKorator theme, in the theme post right click on the download link and "copy link address", then just go to deKorator "themes" tab push the "install new theme" button and paste the link onto the address bar, deKorator will download and install it for you.

most importent after any installation type, if you'd like to use the theme you need to press on the "set theme path's" push button.

And PLEASE if you got any comment good or bad, suggestion, feature request, other tiling format idea, please feel free to shout it...

10x to eyal the project is hosted now at www.cheetux.org.il, you could also find there some theme's i've ported from 0.1 to 0.2.

Changelog:

*better masking, for how to use it properly look at the Bushido-Yellow-theme inside the tarball.
*new hue colorizing method, proposed by Azzali Matteo AKA mattepiu.
*if supplied transparent images deKorator will fill it with the style background color, this will allow some "powder" style windec, this idea was proposed by the autor of powder,Remi VillatelAKA Maxilys.
*support for title bar wheel mouse action as introduced in kde 3.5.1, patch supplied by Morten Johansson.
*global themes support, this feature allows rpms and debs builders to build themes packages as proposed by loki, deKorator will look for the global themes at $KDEDIR/share/apps/deKorator/themes.
*much more configureabilty when regarding to active and inactive decos and buttons.
*custom colors for buttons.
*new theme The K-style:Infinity-theme, done by Zoran Karavla, included in the tarball and shown in the screenshots.
* few other options in the config dialog.

for full changelog see file CHANGELOG within the tarball.

I used the 0.1...and it's great. But now I saw some features form 0.2 and I would like to have it.

I got the eBuild and emerged it -> without any errors. But when I opened kcontrol and on "window decorations" would try to select "deKorator" kcontrol crashes without any comment.

Please help, I would like to use it.
Thanks

stanlus

is there a reason not to pump up the version to 0.2.1 ?
I mean next version will be 0.2includesfix1andothersarealsofixed.tgz
it will give funny rpm packages and deb names :)

Okay. Done evrything in order. Success. I add theme as displayed in your flash movie. However, no theme appears in my list. The list is empty. Am I missing something. This is good KDE enhancement and I do not want to be left without one.

Thanks Anyway. Take Care!

Hi amroth,
when u install the default-theme that came with the tar-ball does it appear on your list-box?
check that u have $HOME/.kde/share/apps/deKorator/themes dir made by deKorator, if not i suggest u to remove deKorator rc file, run kcontrol from the konsole and go to deKorator, if deKorator dont have those dirs it will print "no dirs, will make them" to the console and make those dirs. but still i dont fully understand your problem pleae supply some more info like if it happens for all the themes or there r themes that u can install.

BTW gentoo is Hard to learn, ha:)

cheers

Okay. The problem is like this... I install the fix version since the dekorator from guru's rpm crashed my kcontrol.

i make evrything as told. the right way. However, the default theme does not appear in my theme list. WHich means something is wrong somewhere.

I am new to linux. Realtively, I have no support or knowledge on this system. However, I am learning one by one and determined to learn no matter what.

I check the $HOME/.kde/share/apps/deKorator/themes. Nothing is there. Even on root folder there is nothing in there. So perhaps, this is caused by the 1st attempt while installing the RPM version that crash my kcontrol.

I search for any remaining dekorators folder but found nothing. Maybe i need to delete the RC for dekorator. This is a newbie question.. where is the RC files for dekorator? Try to look for it in /etc and found nothing.

Thanks

ok but u still havent done what i told...

look try to start fresh new user and see if it runs there?

if it does, in your user please remove $HOME/.kde/share/config/kwindekoratorc
if there is $HOME/.kde/share/apps/dekorator/themes
remove it to and search that u dont have any dekorator related dirs in /opt/kde/share/apps/dekorator

then run kcontrol from the console and let me know what it print's out

and please for any problem u'll be having, supply some info about your OS kde version and such, for some reason i though u were using gentoo???

you also could try to unzip (un-gzip,...) some themes into the specified deKorator-themes-dir. Probably then something shows up...

So far only the "Black" theme from KDE-Look.org works. Any other theme (e.g. "Matrix") gets me "The file is not a valid deKorator theme archive.". Why is this?

I'm not offended. I installed deKorator via your RPM and that's why I didn't notice your portDek. I suggest you add this info in the description, so nobody needs to ask you again.

u need to edit the SRC_URI var to point to the fixed version.

and maybe even the name of the ebuild to the name of the fixed version, but i'm not 100% positive about it, been a long time since i've used gentoo.
