Description:

SOME REQUEST - a lot of you guy's were asking for binaries for their distros,
so please if you could build one and mail it to me i would post them ASAP, 10X:)

Hi there,

this is the deKorator kwin deco,
deKorator is based on the HOWTO: KWin Window Manager Decorations posted in here: http://kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=6332
and done by Brandybuck, 10x david:)
the man that responsible for all the art design is jon clarke AKA ArbitraryReason, and if you don't know him by now all you should do is just look at the highest rated scores of this site:)
the nice thing about deKorator it's that it loads is images from
some user defined directory(something quiet similar to what iceWM is doing ),
thats means that everything is themeable with no time and no programming knowledge is needed.
one thing to note is that if you would like to see the changes instantly when designing the tiles, you need to run "kwin --replace&".

few notes:
when installing the new version, log out and login back, or run "kwin --replace&" to load the new version.
if for some reason some options dont seem to work, remove your old kwindeKoratorrc file and let deKorator produce a new one.

i will update my site with some more documentation, samples, template-themes, and other usefull stuff for the theme makers,
so don't forget to check it out, it will be located in the "goodies" directory.

how to install new theme - there r 3 ways to install new theme I'll name them out,

1 - downlad theme tarball and extract it to $HOME/.kde/share/apps/deKorator/themes

2 - download theme tarball, go to deKorator "themes" tab push the "install new theme" push button, you'll be presented with a dialog box, enter your theme URL or just use the little push button to locate your theme on your file system.

3 - go to kde-look and search for some 0.2 deKorator theme, in the theme post right click on the download link and "copy link address", then just go to deKorator "themes" tab push the "install new theme" button and paste the link onto the address bar, deKorator will download and install it for you.

most importent after any installation type, if you'd like to use the theme you need to press on the "set theme path's" push button.

And PLEASE if you got any comment good or bad, suggestion, feature request, other tiling format idea, please feel free to shout it...

10x to eyal the project is hosted now at www.cheetux.org.il, you could also find there some theme's i've ported from 0.1 to 0.2.

Changelog:

*better masking, for how to use it properly look at the Bushido-Yellow-theme inside the tarball.
*new hue colorizing method, proposed by Azzali Matteo AKA mattepiu.
*if supplied transparent images deKorator will fill it with the style background color, this will allow some "powder" style windec, this idea was proposed by the autor of powder,Remi VillatelAKA Maxilys.
*support for title bar wheel mouse action as introduced in kde 3.5.1, patch supplied by Morten Johansson.
*global themes support, this feature allows rpms and debs builders to build themes packages as proposed by loki, deKorator will look for the global themes at $KDEDIR/share/apps/deKorator/themes.
*much more configureabilty when regarding to active and inactive decos and buttons.
*custom colors for buttons.
*new theme The K-style:Infinity-theme, done by Zoran Karavla, included in the tarball and shown in the screenshots.
* few other options in the config dialog.

for full changelog see file CHANGELOG within the tarball.

 Finally

Finally, I think it's starting to click with the fans. The software engineers should not be creating the window decorations and the styles. The graphics artists should be (well, ideally both, supporting each other).

Nice idea motyR: a proposal though - support tarballs or something similar so users can load the 'theme' from a file rather than a directory. Then maybe a deKorator section will appear under the content pane on KDE-Look and the GetHotNewStuff fans can use that functionality too.

A question too: say I have something like nof (http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=30786) - could I load the nof images into deKorator and have it respect the nuances with it's transparencies? If not, you're real close to being a frontend to decgen. ;)

Hi maitre, whats up?

first i would like to say that u were the one which inpired me, u were the first one which picked the glove and for that u r considerd as the fother of all decgens modes and succesors,

now about your thought's, actually the tar proposal is great and i will adopt it, and for the second one i'm not sure i got u but if r u talking about the MASKS, in the future i plan to load some user defined bitmaps(only plain black and plain white) and will build the mask region acording to those bitmaps.

thats it man, so again BIG 10X for decgen and even bigger one for your original thought's, which is priceles for adeveloper.

cheers man:)

p.s if u like me to mail u the sources for testing or such, i would be glad to;)

I had a similar idea to this, but 1.) have absolutely no time to pursue it and 2.) don't quite have the skills to tackle such a project. (Panel Applets, I can do...learning to do more is a work in progress. ;-) )

I always kind of liked the way that WindowMaker handled windecs, where you can tile, stretch, etc an image, plus have gradient and color 'over lays' to further change the appearance. Either way, I am also a firm believe that windecs should hide the bottom window handle when the window is shaded, or at least make it optional.

Anyways, nice work, glad to see someone doing this.

Capital Idea, I'm proficient at most graphic work, but performing the 21 steps of file massaging to get the images into the windows decoration ... well I just have no time for its totally unnecessary. An operating system should provide reasonable methods of operation.......... I've been using UNIX since late System 5 and BSD and still all these new Distro's have a long way to go to match legacy platforms like OSF1 Anyway...enough soap boxing!! ;) I'm glad to see that someone has at last seen the light in facilitating a method of simple insertion. Looking forward to your release, About the masking... since there are two types, terminal window and such just use background masking, Xorg composite manager and the like use true transparency of all window and background layers, I'm guessing that Win deco's use background masking ? Hi ArbitraryReason,

10x for your comment, the reason i'm doing it is just because i think that kde is lack's of deco theme because it is not a trivial task todo.., BTW i've looked at your work, Really KOOL work, but tell me what is those beautifull windec u r using?
looks great:)

Thanks for the ++ comments, ! :) The windecs are templates at the moment.... on screen they are mockups, but... with Dekorator they will come to life ..soon I hope ;)

The decoration you show here,
http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=31460
would be incredibly easy to do with decgen.

I did try Decgen, I think something when wrong with the SuSE install, and I lost interest....or got side tracked....again ! lol I'm no noob at unix, erhum...Linux I remember when a root partion was default at 12 megs ! lol, I just got side tracked and never followed through with it ... But yes, I will give decgen a second run, If ya want the aource images, just shout I'm all for sharing info and work, I have a few other templates, here is one I'm working on, it needs some polishing, but you will get the idea: http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b121/sandman65/windeco.png

Yes, I've been looking for a decent dark window decoration, so by all means, the screenshot I had mentioned, send along any thing you have.
