 Nice one

Looks good. That should be one of the default themes for KDE 3.4.One small thing however. That gray panel/background under all that blue screen disturps little bit.

-I just found out my basic problems.-

Hi,

Looking at the screenshot in the middle i can see a user list, but i can't find a way to get this list on my PC. So could you tell me how to do that?

Thanks
Oliver

Sorry, kdm doesn't provide this feature yet (as I said above). So the second screenshot is nothing but a dirty trick to visualize my idea, I just copied and pasted the list from the normal kdm-screen. Furthermore I would like to see a more modifiable and less kde-ish looking list to meet anyone's needs. I think the developers won't change much of the theming implementation until KDE4.

Sorry, don't know anything about PCLinuxOS' way of handling KDE-stuff, but $KDEDIR is a placeholder for the default install directory of the KDE-packages. Most often it will be in /opt/kde... or /usr/... . To simplify things, just try to get your kde-dir and replace $KDEDIR with the real path.

 Broke KDM on KDE3.3

by penguinpowered on: Jun 14 2005

I (idiotically) installed this KDM theme without checking which version of KDE it was for. Now whenever I startup my laptop (Fedora Core 3 with KDE3.3), when it gets to the login screen it just stays black with a message box in the centre saying something like "Cannot use theme file, no username/password input areas defined" or something like that. I click "Ok" on the box (it's the only button) but nothing happens!!! I've rebooted a number of times, looked at my /etc/kde/kdm/kdmrc file and I can't find any reference to the theme so I can't restore the default settings.
The only way I can get into my laptop is using the recovery disk and the command line, no KDE!

Please could somebody tell me how to restore the original login screen so I can get back onto my laptop using KDE. Any help, advice or even ideas would be very greatly appreciated.

 Problem solved...

I've solved the problem of the busted KDM interface by... using the yum command to upgrade KDE following the instructions at the bottom of the page on http://forums.fedoraforum.org/archive/index.php/t-48031.html

Now I'm running KDE 3.4.1 which is absolutely fantastic. It's sleeker, shinier and more feature packed than KDE 3.3, and most suprisingly, it's faster too. I'm extremely impressed and I'm glad I took the time to download it.

Ironically, when I rebooted after upgrading KDE, the login screen was the theme that I'd installed causing 3.3 to break. Hehe. Very good KDM theme though, A+ design.

So, the moral of the story, always read the label before you do something stupid, and always upgrade your Window Manager because it's well worth the effort.

I am looking for a login theme with a User list available.
It is not the case here, but knows someone a theme with such a functionality?
Good job!

State of the art: kdm doesn't support userlists (yet?). I dont know if this will change with the next main kde release (KDE4). For now you have to stuck with gdm as not all features and properties of its xml definition are ported to kdm. ;)
