Description:

First, the screenshot is a fake (a really bad one).
I just had the idea and will start to developing tonight.

I always wanted to have tool that helps me organize the kde-service menus.

tell me what you think about it. anyone interested in helping with the development?

This is the way the version 0.1 will look like. (updated screenshot)

First off, don't worry about your english. 70 % of the planet speaks a language other than english. So again, not to worry.

Now onto your idea. This is something I was thinking of myself. Sadly I don't have the skills (yet) to create something like this. This is something that has been lacking in KDE. If possible it should also be able to edit the right click menu for one's desktop. For example so you can add "create new" items.

The only help I can offer at this point is to be an alpha/beta tester.

In any case, wonderful idea. Now get to it!

5 years, he should have migrated the desktop file format to XML as well.

are you crazy? xml is so slow it and it gains us nothing. why pray tell would you use XML? the current parser is fast, and has almost 10 years to testing and use into it. if you thing xml will solve your problem, well then you have two problems.

the .desktop fileformat is an freedesktop.org standard; you don't change that easilly.

Small tools like this are really needed and for the developer a good starting point to get into KDE development.

However you should consider doing a stand-alone application first and worry about integration into the file association dialog later.

my desktop file editor now embeds into KDevelop and Konqi readonly mode. It should be in kde extragear for release sometime early next week. it really depends if i go hog wild on the service types.

you can currently edit service menus in a trival manner though.

The idea is SUPER. Can it make as a protokol like "fonts:/" for a central acces to the global/local directory with the Program as ServiceMenu?
