Description:

Comix flat style for KDE 3.2+.

I hope this adds a little more fun to your desktop.
Thanks to all the authors of previous styles published for KDE. Please read AUTHORS, README and TODO.

Use the styles configuration button to overwrite the contour drawing color.
Use KDEs ControlCenter "Colors" dialog to adjust buttons- and highlight-color as well as the contrast.
Use kcontrols window decoration config-dialog to adjust title alignment and border width.

Also check the corresponding cursor theme at: http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=32627

Have fun.

 Feedback on KWin Dec

by BigRedFish on: Jan 20 2005

Score 50%

The comix qt style is one of my favorites. However, the windec portion doesn't quite match I think. Here are a few ideas for improvement of the KWin deco:

* The title text bubble could be more rounded, to match the buttons, combo boxes, etc. - the Konqueror location bar in screenshot #2 is a good guide to what I'm thinking.

* Buttons on title bar (close, minimize, etc.) could be circular, to match better with the qt style. Option to not use the buttons at all (just the button icons), as the Knifty windec does. Oh, and if the user chooses to use the full buttons, an option to draw them in the same button color as the qt style's buttons, rather than the active title bar color would be nice too.

* Option to use title bar blend color rather than the window color for the title bar.

* Option to only show the window title when shaded, as with the Ridge windec.

I guess that's my wish list for now. I hope I'm not being too critical. I like Comix a lot, really I do...

Oh yeah, no compilation problems on Slackware 10 with the KDE 3.4 beta 1 (3.3.91).

Thanks for your feedback. I know that the windeco does not exactly fit the style, but for now it is the best i can make out of it. I will consider you options suggestions, sounds promising. I thought i was the only one who liked how shading in Ridge worked :-).
Here is a preview of where i'm going with comix: http://www.luetkens.com/togo.png . I am really keen on trying anti-aliased rounded corner in the windeco, but afaik this will not be possible before KDE4. QT4 looks like it was possible already. So this will take a little while...

well , i dunno about the topo.png :(

but ..

round borders ( all borders ) is nice and

a titlebar kinda like BEOS ( where a side gets cut off ) would be nice also .

since your windeco uses only the right end of the titlebar , the left could be cut

what do you think ?

I think the BeOS style is good, but i dont't like it too much. My title appears on the right side of the decoration because i clicked that "title align = right" option. it might also appear on the left or centered if you want it to. And that's why cutting the rest of the title bar will not look smooth. This would be different if the title and buttons would not reside within the window but be offset like in Ridge or like i intend with that togo.png. And ... i dont't want a style that looks like somthing else.

I like where that togo.png is headed... it makes a seamless match with the Comix style. At least I think so. Whether people like it or not is a matter of personal taste, but as far as doing what it was intended to do and doing it well, I'd rate it "good."

Thanks for sharing the preview, hope your day is a good one.

 desktop background

When I upgrade to the new version of comix, the desktop background picture disappears when I logout. In the new login, the picture is not more available on my desktop background. I had no such problem with comix 1.1.6.

Thanks for help

Funny, after I loged out/in I lost kicker backgound image. I reinstalled comix 1.16 (could not find 1.17 anywhere) and that fixed it. I got some warrnings in .xsession-errors from libpng, that I did not see before and after reinstalling old comix they are gone. If your desktop background is PNG image, this might be related.

Hi there,
it seems very unlikely to me that the comix style messes with your background images or somthing. This would be a serious bug, maybe related to memory assignment or somthing. What you can try is:

make clean
make -f Makefile.cvs

and then continue with the normal configure procedure.
Please drop me a line if the problem still exists.

I just did that and the problem is still there in comix 1.2.1. Switching to comix 1.16 fixes the problem. After loging back in With comix 1.2.1 I cannot set background image or trnsparency to kicker. I created new user and went through all steps and result is the same.

 Updated the ebuild

How did 1.2.0 slip out unnoticed? Sorry about that, everyone.

I updated the Gentoo ebuild for 1.2.1, and now it should properly pass "--without-arts" to 'configure' if you don't have "arts" in your USE variables.

. . . says Praxxus, who is trying KDE 3.4-beta with "USE=-arts" ;-)

Alright, thanks for the report. Please open the file comix-1.2.1/kwin/config/configdialog.ui with a text editor an edit the first line to read:

<!DOCTYPE UI><UI version="3.2" stdsetdef="1">

(fake version downgrade) I will upload a fixed version later today.
