i use fvwm, it's a window manager.
To use it install fvwm 2.5.* http://www.fvwm.org and patch it with http://k9moonshine.free.fr/files/fvwm/fvwm-2.5.9-translucent-menus.diff.gz
(patch -p1 < fvwm-2.5.9-translucent-menus.diff.gz)
install it and
then modify your ~/.fvwm/.fvwm2rc (if you want i can send you my .fvwm2rc)
To finish modify /usr/bin/startkde

kwrapper ksmserver $KDEWM
kwrapper ksmserver -w fvwm $KDEWM
