Description:

FSTabEdit is a control center module to edit your fstab.
It is very basic, but easy to use as well.
If you know what to put in your fstab, you'll be able to use it.
This is similar to the software "Kouvert", but it's implemented as a control center module instead of being a seperate application and it's written in C++, so it doesn't need installed Python and PyQT-bindings.
It hasn't that many options Kouvert has to offer, but I heard some voices disliking interfaces over-filled with options like Kouvert.
If you like more simple interfaces, you may like FSTabEdit.

IMPORTANT! It depends on Linux 2.6!
It will run on Linux 2.4, but not all features will be supported!
It isn't even tested on systems with 2.4, I don't have any left anymore.

Added screenshot of the new version as a preview to show what's coming up.
The current code is able to fill the list with available devices like shown in the second screenshot.
The buttons don't do anything right now and now changes will be saved.
Not even in memory.
Stay tuned for new versions.

IMPORTANT UPDATE!!!
Stop using version 0.2!
It has a major bug which may render your system unbootable!
Mountpoints that are written by fstabedit-0.2 won't work as they should because of a syntax-error in the generated config-file.
This problem is fixed (and tested!) in version 0.3.

I suggest you make your kcontrol module a little more verbose about the options. Not everybody who will use this knows what to type. Maybe you could give an editable and documented list of options or something that allows people to choose what sounds sensible instead of being forced to type something they don't necessarily know. Maybe a kind of "Create or configure device Wizard" would be a good idea. (If you don't know what I mean have a look at k3bsetup from the k3b project).
Anyway, the idea of making fstab more accessible is great.

Very, very nice. With a little more polish that would be the kind of thing that ought to be included in kdeadmin. I hope also that the generated fstab is nicely formated and readable without having to scroll in a standard console. Cheers.

A button to convert normal mounts to supermount:
/dev/cdroms/cdrom0 /mnt/cdrom iso9660 noauto,ro,user 0 0
vs.
none /mnt/cdrom supermount ro,dev=/dev/cdroms/cdrom0,fs=iso9660,-- 0 0

A little button to add options with a description would also be nice.... maybe you can read the description of the file-system spesific option out of the correspondent man-pages at runtime....

Supermount you say?
I think it's obsolete already, isn't it?
SubFS is its successor AFAIK.
My system doesn't support Supermount, but SubFS.
But maybe you want to use autofs for something?
No, I don't think it would be a good idea to offer those options.
It's too complicated with all those different approaches for the same thing.
I'm currently working on a wizard to assist you by adding new devices.
I think this is much more important.

i use kde 3.2.3 on Fedora Core 2 and this apps work fine.
- as a sugestion - could u add an options to move a command line Up and Down - to mount specific partition (location) on a specific order ?

Good idea for all of us that do not use a distribution that comes with all that automated tools by its own (as MDK, Suse etc). But I think that the main dialog, the way it shows the current devices, it could be do in a better, more graphical and more eye-candy way. I'll try to work on a .ui sample to let you know what I have in mind, ok? :)

Does anyone know how to query the system for existing block devices?
I need help with this.
My current approach to get a list of installed block devices uses the proc-filesystem and requires kernel 2.6.
But I'd like to support kernel 2.4 as well.
Anyone who has an idea how to achieve this, PLEASE, contact me!
