Description:

Kentoo is a KDE Control Center module providing a frontend to Gentoo's portage system. It currently supports the following features:

* Syncing
* Emerging system or world
* emerging of selected packages
* Injecting and masking of packages via context menu
* Condensed and colorized emerge output to easily see the important messages

There is now an ebuild available:

http://www.ece.cmu.edu/~rholzer/kentoo-0.4.ebuild

Changelog:

* Cleaned up emerge output
* small bug fixes

 ebuild

 by air2 on: Jul 25 2004

Hey, looks nice, but how do I compile it. When I run ./configure I get:
configure: error: cannot find sources (acinclude.m4) in . or ..

Anyway, is there an ebuild for it?

I hope you can help me out compiling it, because the idea of the program looks very nice too me.

Greetings,

Auke

Sorry, I have to repackage it, the current package has some problems.

Here's how it should compile:

make -f Makefile.cvs
./configure --prefix=/kde/dir/goes/here
make
make install

 Makefile

There was a typo in the Makefile (damn tabs!). I updated the package. It should install the kentoo.desktop file now. Please let me know if anyone has trouble installing it.

builds/installs just fine here.
nice app - thanks.
anyways, 2 wishes ;-)
- provide an ebuild
- provide a superuser-mode (ask for root pwd) if run as user and try to emerge something

 Great app!

Great app!
I wish only that it could show also Installed packages, Updates and New.
Perhaps Installed and Updates can be in one tab, parallel to one another to be easier to navigate.
Also, perhaps sorting the list by 'type' would be nice.
Like KPackage (in Beta1/2 does), by sys-apps, sys-devel, etc. things like what would make visual managment A LOT easier.

One more critical thing in my opinion is the ability to un/merge specific apps.
like in portage: 'emerge unmerge arts', instead it should do: 'emerge nmerge arts-' to be more accurate, incase I have "by mistake/choice" more then one version installed of the same package.

Cant wait! thanks!

 ebuild needed ASAP!

Since this is an app for Gentoo users, an ebuild seems to be *mandantory*

please make one and put it here and also into Gentoo BugZilla.

thanks!

Feel free to make one. I am compiling KDE manually, so I wouldn't be able to test the ebuild.

Here's an experimental ebuild. Can someone let me know if it works?

 esearch

It would be great if you'd add support for esearch, a kind of locate for ebuilds (http://packages.gentoo.org/ebuilds/?esearch-0.6.2)
It makes an index of all ebuilds allowing a very fast search. In addition 'esync' does 'emerge sync', updates the db and displays you everythink what has changed since your last sync. very handy!
