It seems you didn't get it the first few times I told you. Redhat is only good for servers not desktops. Out of SUSE, Mandrake and Slackware Redhat is the least userfriendly and the hardest to isntall. Infact the only good thing I can say about it is that it has a sort of cool name, it's american and that it was first. But, just because it was first doesen't mean it's the best. So many things that come by default in SUSE, Mandrake and Windows are toatally left out in redhat. Try SuSE 8 Pro on April 22nd and if you can honestly say that you still like your Red Hat better on your computer than I will never say anything against redhat again.

Please do not go off on people for their choice of distribution. It's not your place to tell people what's friendly to them.

I happen to use SuSE and yes I recommend it to others but I don't force them to use it...nor do I call them stupid for doing so. By speaking as you have to this person he may never try SuSE.

BTW..your facts are even wrong .. SuSE has been around for 10 years. They were around about 2 years before RH came onto the scene. RH just got noticed in this country first because they are American.

Please use what you like and let others choose what they like as well.

I'm american so what ever is first ehre is first in my mind j/k. OH well 10 years is a lot. But, userfriendliness isn't something of opinion when there is such a GIGANTIC gap. If it was WIndows XP or OS X userfriendliness than yeah it's more a matter of opinion but Redhat and SUse 8 that is too big a difference. I have Redhat 7.2 and the log-in thing doesen't even have the heads so you can select faster. The one on my SUse has a clock, my own pic, a cool background and my KDE looks a lot better by default too.

Sorry if I made anyone mad anyway.

 Distro

Oh well, here we go. I don't find Red Hat harder to install than SuSE or Mandrake. I used to like Mandrake, but their *drake tools are just too buggy (they should concentrate on a few tools and make them perfect) so Red Hat's control panel in 7.2 looks pretty attractive. Red Hat's distributions often have a very solid ground (Alan's kernels are very well put together) and bero creates good KDE packages, so I don't see how that makes a bad desktop distribution. I do try all distributions from Mandrake, Red Hat and SuSE though, so I'm eagerly awaiting the new ones from SuSE and Red Hat expected soon.

I don't know where you got this Winterwolf. RedHat ships a pretty generic KDE, just as configurable as all the others. I don't know what your problem is, it doesn't even matter. Everyone has his own personal favourite distro, it all depends on how you like things done. Some people actually like redhats approach, and you have to give Bero and his collegues some credit for all their hard work.
friendly regards,
pjgunst

Redhat installs much harder. It isn't like SUSE where it is as easy as XP to install and partition. ALso I know redhat is as configureable as SuSE but they haven't configured things by default. SuSE has made everything looks great by default. Ofcourse you can still change it but it is also easier to change things like resolution and SUSE"s KDE does have a few things that Redhat's doesen't.

Winterwolf, i would like to know what you have been smoking ? You must be on alot of drugs, Red hat Linux is the first and the best distro on this planet. They are all the time updating kernel function and the OS itself and their Tech Support is awesome unlike Suses who cant even answer a simple questionand whos distro gets more unstable and bogged down with every release. Yiou must either work for Mandrakesoft or Suse. Oh and another thing, If you use Mandrake SURPRISE its actually Red Hat Linux since Mandrakesoft based their distro on Red Hats.
